I've never played this game before, though everyone insists that this game is king as far as Super Nintendo games go. My question is: how many hours does this game take to complete (roughly) for a person who has never played it before?

That's a tough one, it really depends on how good you are at RPG's and how much of the game you want to complete.(the "final" boss is nothing compared to Culex) Although I haven't played through this game in years, I don't remember it being an incredibly long game. I'm sure with enough effort it could be completed in a 24 hour period, that's my guess anyways. Fun game though and I recommend it to any Mario/RPG fan.

Probably 20-25 hours, give or take.
I don't remember it being that long.
If it were, I wouldn't have replayed it so many times.

Getting that game on the Virtual Console was one of the best decisions Nintendo has ever made.

NOTE: I don't own a tangible SMRPG because my SNES is incapable of playing it, do not ask me why.

The game plays well but if you hate Mario you won't like the game... that's my scenario.

I hate Mario, however I greatly enjoyed the charm and LACK of Mario-esque bullshit that's involved in this game. All of Square's original characters, villains, and races are very charming and make the game a delight to play. It doesn't feel "old hat" like a lot of the crap in Paper Mario.

I used to like Mario quite a lot, and now I still love him, just don't really play many of the new games, I still haven't played my copy of Mario Galaxy which... is quite blasphemous.

I was just amazed how this game wound up being such a good square-like RPG with some touches of Mario to the style, music, and so on, it was astonishing. However, I stopped playing after downloading it because I got to the part of the game I hate the most..... stupid ghost ship bored-ness.

I was surprised how rare the SNES cart has become, makes me proud to be an owner. XD

I really should replay SMRPG. I have a lot of grand childhood memories, renting it every week from the local video store.

I miss renting SNES games, they were the best.

Waiting for the resurrection of PGB, as am I. Or the popularity of Mucka Jucka to suddenly sky rocket.

Super Mario RPG is a long game but can take you probably three or four days depending on how good you know what you are doing. My guess, try it because we know it's out for the Virtual Console and if you get it, you'll enjoy every bit of it.

I've just got the third star (I know, I've been super busy lately), but the game is still good. And the soundtrack is fantastic. :)
