That's only in Japan, isn't it? I checked the SNES list the other day and didn't see it.

I don't have a lot of VC games, so I hope you don't mind if I include WiiWare titles in my list.

1. Lost Winds
Best platformer on Wii by far and makes better use of the remote than a lot of first-party games.

2. Toejam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron
I know I'm in the majority, but I prefer this over the original. It's a really great, quirky and artistic action-platformer. Really good cooperative gameplay as well.

3. Super Metroid
It's a little bit down on my list because I still maintain that Zero Mission is the better game. It just has a lot more polish. Even still, Super Metroid is fantastic. This is where the focus on exploration really peaked in the series, before hint systems and overly-talkative computers were introduced.

4. Ecco the Dolphin and Ecco: The Tides of Time
I'm not sure which is better, so I'll list them together. An incredibly difficult set of games with great visuals and an amazing soundtrack, even on the Genesis versions. Very slow-paced, so you have to set aside a lot of time to play it.

5. Gyrostarr
Great fun with friends, but not very deep or rewarding.

Now, just as a side topic, these are the games I've bought and didn't enjoy at all:

Gunstar Heroes
Too chaotic, and the coop mode is broken by the fact that the same button used to fire your gun is also used to toss your partner. This results in way too many accidental deaths by tossing him/her into a group of enemies or over a cliff.

StarFox 64
I just wasn't impressed. It's too generic, the free-range levels control terribly (and, by extension, so do the multiplayer dogfights) and everything looks very muddy, even for an N64 game.

Same here. The only exception I've made so far was for Shining Force (in retrospect, not a good purchase), but I'll likely make another for Jurassic Park and JP: Rampage Edition (if they're ever released) just so I don't have to lug around and hook up my old Genesis.

I will agree that this can be a bad purchase to make, especially if you own the game, the GBA game, or have simply played the game to death. While it is a fun SRPG, it's lack of plot makes it very boring.

As for whomever dissed on Gunstar Heroes, I am appalled. Seriously though, I do get where you're coming from, but the whole chaotic factor is why it's one of the most fun Side-scrolling shooters out there. It's like Contra on crack, yet more forgiving about you taking damage, and a huge focus on cool bosses. I had no problem co-oping this game with a friend, and we never managed to kill each other at all.

Anywho, my top list would go something like this, in no particular order of numbering.

- River City Ransom
- Gunstar Heroes
- Sin & Punishment
- Landstalker
- Shining Force (Even though I just bashed on it a bit, it's still an amazing game that isn't easily available.)

If you'll take notice, all 5 of those games AREN'T readily available to you through some other means. Most popular Sega games are available via 'Smash Packs' for the PC or Dreamcast or Playstation. Same thing goes with all of the 'Nintendo' games, buy Animal Crossing for the gamecube, play for awhile and get all the special 'codes' and you've got 1/4 of the VC's awesome line up, on your Gamecube, for significantly less than what you would've paid on Virtual Console.

Just a reminder, it seems that he only wants you all to put down VC games and not WiiWare games.

Super Mario RPG was indeed one of the best games to come out on the SNES. However, I already own the game for my SNES, and thus I have no need to buy it again on the VC.

1. Super Mario Bros 2. (USA)
2. Ninja Gaiden
3. Super Castlevania IV
4. Punch-Out!!
5. Kid Icarus

By the way, here's a pet peeve I have with the Virtual Console 'Nes' games....The colors arent as colorful/vibrant as their original Nes counterparts....Many people have complained about this. So what you get are darker, less colorful and slightly washed out Colors. I mean WTF Nintendo!? How could they mess this up?...Yet the Snes and N64 VC games look exactly how they were color wise...But of course they're even 'better' if you're using Component cables, and if you're not....Then that's pretty damn sad.
