Can you believe they picked my topic, Link?

The possible demise of the Nintendo franchise due to gimmicky gameplay and a lack of "gamer" focused games. Will it stay afloat or will it burn in flames with the likes of Sega and Atari?

Meh, that topic is so beaten into the ground though. Anywho, the answer to this debate is simply, there ARE core games out there, but people are way too picky about what they consider to be a core game, even the games for gamers are essentially still accessible for casuals and somehow with Nintendo it's always been "If you don't have horribly violent games and FPS titles then you don't have any good titles at all." But, totally a different debate we can have in the Nintendo section. :)

haha, I can. But, that doesn't change my opinion that this topic was beaten into the ground ever since E3's Wii Music catastrophe.

It's interesting enough to hear everyone's opinion though. The demise of Nintendo I believe is possible but unlikely right now. Next console though may break them.

For this week's topic on the Resident Evil franchise...

I have played Resident Evil 4 on my Wii and it is easily one of my favorite games ever. The game is terrific with amazing controls and the gameplay was spot-on.
I have never played any others in the series and I wish I could! I do hope I'll be able to buy Resident Evil 5 very soon too for the 360. :-D

Also looking foward to the Wii rail shooter remake of Resident Evil 2. Resident Evil Darkside Chronicles. (I really hope I got the name right. )

Ok so the next show's topic is the Resident Evil Franchise? In that case:

Going into Resident Evil 5 I had a lot of high hopes because it was being touted as the final chapter on Umbrella, Chris, Wesker and everything else up until this point. I was really exited having been a fan since the first one and owning and playing all of the canon installments. After playing 5 though I felt a little cheated. It felt just like Resident Evil 4, which I loved to death, but I really burned myself out on it much like a lot of other people. Had they put in the effort to update the playstyle like they had with 4 perhaps I could have overlooked its other flaws. At the end of the day I still had fun with it, but it has some pretty glaring flaws.

If you guys have played it what are your thoughts on this? Should they have updated the controls in wake of games like Gears of War and Dead Space by at least adding an aim and walk feature, or are people just bitching for the sake of bitching?

Why isn't this in the suggestion topic, not to be mean but not many people would have checked here the next topic, and by RPG's do you mean just in general cause it's a pretty big topic.
Why didn't Mike and Tom pick one from the suggestion thread?

Have you not listened to the past two or three shows? They've been picking their own topics lately and/or topics from call-ins. Also, it's posted here so people know what the topic is to comment on. :)

Hey guys, great topic last week but I feel you missed some pretty epic fights but you got some good ones anyway and still a great show. :-D

Some of my favorite RPG's ever that I have played would have to be

The KotOR series, I love the story in this and I love star wars so getting to be my own Jedi or Sith was awesome and the surprise in the first game really shocked me the first time, I'm really interested to see what the MMO has installed for us. :want:

Chrono Trigger of course but on the DS, I have really enjoy playing Chrono Trigger so far and I can see why people love this game so much. Oh and yes, Frog is amazing. :D

Mass Effect, this is a game I absolutely LOVE :yuush: The story is fantastic and playing through it is so much fun and I'm am dying to get Mass Effect 2 and keep playing.

Fallout 3 As if I wouldn't mention this, everyone knows how amazing this game is, it's just a shame the PC version which has the mod editor sucks because it's so broken, the game freezes nearly every 5 minutes, but thankfully a friend lent me his 360 copy which I played through and enjoyed much more. XD

There's a ton more I can mention but those are my four favorites which I love to keep playing.

Some others I wont go into detail are.

The world ends with you

Fable 1 and 2

and yes World of Warcraft, I don't play religiously, just on school holidays for about one hour to two at a time. SO DON'T THINK I'M SOME WOW ADDICT!!! :verymad:

RPG's will always hold a special place in my heart right next to the hours i've spent trying to beat some of them... My favorite to this day has to be Shining Force on the Sega Genesis... I was always a huge Nintendo fan boy but there was something about that game that I fell in love with... Recently i've been playing Valkria Chronicles on the PS3 which has similar strategy RPG elements and i love that game too... Both games are Sega products and I would love it if Sega would release a Next Gen version of Shining Force... MMMMM nothing but win...

Hey Tom and Mike!

No discussion of epic boss battles is complete without looking at the MANY, MANY to be found in the Metroid Prime games. Echoes in particular, while a monotonous and frequently frustrating chapter, mevertheless has some of my favorites. I remember cackling with joy when I first fought Amorbis... Only to find myself screaming alien obscenities a few game hours later as I repeatedly got my *ss kicked by the Boost Guardian. I finally beat him (like a year later,) but saw no point going on after that.

Another overlooked game on the Gamecube with some awesome boss action was Geist. If you two haven't played through it, you're missing out on some inspired, original, bizarre gaming moments. One scene has you attempting to "kill a ghost" before it can get close enough to you to possess you and try to walk you into various deathtraps. Another has you trying to bring down twin reanimated stone statues while wearing a time-shifting suit. (Not to mention the duel with the old man in the flying, rocket-shooting wheelchair.)

That was the exact same for me, the boost guardian would have to be the hardest boss for me but I don't find it epic aside from epic frustration. >_< Although I did continue the game only to stop when I couldn't beat Dark Samus after killing the King Ing monster and have little to no health left. x_x

The Prime series definitly has awesome bosses.
But man, you stopped after the Boost Guardian? You totally missed out on fighting Quadraxis.

That was a pretty epicly awesome multi part boss battle.

Just a minor note about the RPG show, although it's probably already in the can:

Suikoden is by far the best RPG ever. If people have not tried this out by now, they really should. I believe Suikoden 1 and MAYBE Suikoden 2 are available on the PS3 as DLC. There are roughly 6 - 7 games in the series and they ALL occur on the same universe/planet. That means there's a huge amount of lore and other information to geek out to and it has over 400+ characters all with their own unique quirks, storylines, and everything, and they're really VERY well fleshed out, unlike say... the 40+ characters you had in Chrono Cross, most of which you never gave a damn about.

Hey Mike and Tom my mic's broken so I can't record anything for you. :brood:

My thought's on TMNT, well I loved the TV show, both the old one and the new one but I never found many games for the series, I did track down a copy of the NES version for my old NES, this was the version the AVGN "reviewed" (Slammed) and I barely got past the first level.

I'm interested in the new fighter since it's being made by the guys behind Super Smash Brothers Brawl but I am absolutely pumped for the remake of Turtles in Time which I have always wanted to try.

Here's hoping you actually check this section and find this comment. lol

lol, Mike you need to stop being such a bandwagon street fighter fan. You talk about Daigo like you have no idea who he is and mispronounce his name. Its time to start watching past evo/tournament youtube vids and learn some terminology.

Fighting game tourneys are boresville. Guy doesn't need to know tons of terminology and other crap just to talk about it. He's not trying to claim he's the biggest SF fan evar or anything, and he's admitted a lot that he gets whooped a lot in SFIV.
