I remember playing the demo to that i think... didn't you have to choose a pilot first then choose your bot?

Precisely, in "arcade mode" you first choose a pilot (they differed in strength, speed & endurance) and then choose a HAR (Human Assisted Robots).
Then you had "tournament mode" which you fought in different tournaments, made money and upgraded your pilot & HAR. You could also trade your HAR for another.

I think there was one called PYRO who had a sweep attack that was literally just a flame thrower. Sooo cheap but sooo amazing.

Yeah, man if I've known that back in the day, that would have been sweet.

A friend and I used to compete in this game, by working up a tournament pilot, then copying it to floppy disk and then to the others computer and fight each others pilots. Ah man, those were the days.

"BIG 9" was one of cheats i used a lot that did absolutely nothing but put a giant 9 on the screen. man epic mega games were awesome

Really? Well, I got curious and tested it, didn't see any giant 9, but it increased the scrap amount a lot, nice.
