Metal Gear games are based heavily on story, if you want to just sit down and just play a game, look elsewhere

true but hideo kojima's games are more digital comics than they are games. i'm not saying that having elaborate story is a bad thing, i love the MGS series, but there's a boundary with games when it becomes too much.

I just got this game, and holy damn is it amazing. kojima is such a brilliant game designer/director/creator/etc. I cant stop playing it. This not only lives up to the hype, but surpasses it as well. Well, off to the PS3.

100% agree with you. I always describe the series as an Interactive Experience. It's a game that cannot be fully appreciated if you only play it for its gameplay.

I've had a ps3 since Jan and this is the first time I've actually played a game for more than an hour offline on it.
I'm enjoying this game so far, but it takes a little getting used to the controls again. L1+R1 to shoot? My trigger finger is not amused.

I haven't read any reviews on this game yet and don't plan on it until I'm done.

Edit: Is anybody else slightly bothered by the product placement?
The screen just moved a bit so I could get a better shot at the Mac Laptop on the table. :/

I recently went to play Metal Gear Solid and I had to stop because I kept getting phone calls and text messages... haha, and they were always in the most inconvenient times - it was like every time I was watching a cut scene, someone was trying to get a hold of me... crazy. But a great game for sure. :)

I was never a huge fan of the Metal Gear Solid series, but when I played three, it was awesome. I mostly played all of them (except Metal Gear Solid Acid). I recently got Metal Gear Solid 4 and it kicks all kinds of ass.

I disagree. The gameplay is what makes it work, and in some instances (MGS2 and 4 and a lot of 3 and some of 1) the cinematics make me appreciate it LESS. Especially MGS2. Fuck that game. "She really IS Lady Luck." Fuck you, MGS2. But the gameplay was good. Liquid Ocelot and psychotherapy? Fuck you, MGS4. But the gameplay was good.

:mah: Ahh, such good times I've had with the first game. I remember playing through the whole game in one sitting when I was in 5th grade. MGS2 was alright, not the best one but I still enjoy it. MGS3 is just as amazing as MGS1, and it was a great story because I got to know more about the history of Big Boss (not to mention that epic hour-long battle I had with The End.) Now that I have the Subsistence version, I can finally play the first two Metal Gear games (instead of the mediocre NES port I tried about a month ago). As for MGS4, I have only got to play the first act of the game, so far, I'm impressed. As soon as I get a PS3, that's going to be on of my first PS3 game purchases (along with Street Fighter IV)

*High five!*
Hell yeah! I still play it to this day. I have it downloaded onto my PSP and my PS3 and still play it to this day.
I have also gone through MGS 4 about 10 times. I might be a bit of a fanboy when it comes to the MGS series.
