Cool story bro.

I get not liking the guy's superhero work since it goes against the norm for those books, but can you honestly say his non-superhero work isn't any good?

I thought Joe the Barbarian was ok. Link/Beeslo liked it a lot more than me, but I'll give it a passing grade. Skrull Kill Krew was also good, but Mark Millar co-wrote that, so. Since I don't like him very much, it's not like I frantically search out his whole bibliography to read, so outside of superhero stuff, I haven't read much. I am willing to give We3 a chance since it's short and supposed to be good, I'm also willing to give his Animal Man run a shot.

I really should track Animal Man down, now that you mention it. It's been on my to read list for a long time.

I don't know, I just thought it was ok. Calling it passable for me is a big deal lol. Everytime I read something by Grant Morrison all I can think about is how much more I would like it if Neil Gaiman wrote it.

Well, yeah, but by that coin anybody could think how much better something else could be if written by their favorite writer for a particular genre. But, I guess I see where you're coming from.

The only Morrison I read was Batman Rip and I liked it. It wasn't anything amazing, but it was pretty good with a rather disturbed version of The Joker in it. Like Dark said, this arc would be really hard to read issue by issue and waiting, as opposed to reading it in one go. Still a neat story and concept.

The first appearance of Prometheus.

Rock of Ages.

Starro Arc.

New World Order.

JLA: One Million.

Crisis Times Five.

Basically Morrison's JLA run is why he's such a big shot right now. When I say he wrote the biggest and the best Justice League stories, I'm not shitting around. Most of these stories are bigger than most events today as well. He took Darkseid and made him rise above generic world conquer, he re-did the white martians in a brilliant way, he managed to use Sandman in a large arc, created the greatest enemies the league has ever known and managed to bring the book back from the constant state of crap it was in during most of the 90s.

This is pure gold here and why I'm usually behind Morrison. Sometimes his experiments fail, other times he can make every other writer working on these books look like hacks.

Morrison's Animal Man stuff is great if not overly political.

In more random Grant Morrison news, here are some outtakes from his Rolling Stone interview:

Grant Morrison wrote:
1. On Identity Crisis - “The first time I read it I was kind of outraged. I thought this was just… why? What the fuck is this, really? It wasn’t even normal. It was outrageous. It was preposterous because of the Elongated Man with his arms wrapped several times around the corpse of his wife. I thought something is broken here. Something has gone so wrong in this image.”

I kind of chuckled because that's my reaction to every Batman related book I've read of his. I wouldn't go as far as saying Brad Meltzer is one of the best comic writers out there, but for his brief time with DC he did a good job; particularly with Identity Crisis. Also of note here is a crack at Rags Moralas' art; who I will say is one of the best artists at DC; and was supposed to be the main artist for Action Comics with Morrison, but is being dropped after the first issue.

Grant Morrison wrote:
2. On Alan Moore and rape – “I suddenly think how many times has somebody been raped in an Alan Moore story? And I couldn’t find a single one where someone wasn’t raped except for Tom Strong, which I believe was a pastiche. We know Alan Moore isn’t a misogynist but fuck, he’s obsessed with rape.”

Ok I'll agree here, but this is the kind of observation anyone familiar with Moore would say. Its like pointing out Frank Miller loves whores. Don't know why it was brought up, but totally see why it was cut.

Grant Morrison wrote:
3. On comic book groupies – “There were some people in the business who were fucking every girl in sight. I just couldn’t do that. I love the little girl-ness and the whole idea that they were really bright and they read Batman and Robin or they read Death from the Endless. It meant something to them and you don’t want to ruin that and make them think that the guys that do this stuff are sleaze bags and mess up their lives.”

I find that very hard to believe coming from this man

The guy portrays himself like some comicbook rock god. I call bullshit.

Grant Morrison wrote:
4. On the split with Mark Millar - “It was quite hard, I felt, but he had to make his own way, and he was in denial that I’d been there, because I saw a lot of his work had been plotted or devised, even dialogue suggestions were done by me right up until the point of The Ultimates.”

Ok someone fill me in here because I'm not quite grasping the story. Did they have a bad falling out or something?

Grant Morrison wrote:
5. On Batman and Superman - “When I wrote Superman, it was like contemplating Buddha, I really felt elevated. Everything seemed more beautiful, more precious. Batman’s different. I try not to go into Batman that much because he’s nutty, and I don’t really want to feel like Bruce Wayne.”

Which, to me, explains why his Batman sucks.

Its not so much hate at this point, its more a sick amusement from the things he says. Sure, he's easy fuel for something to bitch about, but he also is a big name in the industry who happens to be very opinionated. Plus, the point of this thread is to talk about him and the crazy shit he says. Its not my fault there isn't anything newsworthy going on (in comics).
