I'm a horror nut. This is a masterpiece IMO. It draws you in with the Documentary style narrative. Blair Witchy? Yes. But the atmosphere is one thing the story is the main creepy factor more like an in depth campfire tale than a shock factor horror movie.

I loved it, Japanese people know how to make horror.

Black Swan pissed me off by wasting my time for the majority of the film with absolutely nothing happened. The last 20 minutes were okay, but too little WAY too fucking late. I love psychological thrillers probably MORE than the next guy, and that may be why I find this to be totally stupid and an absolute waste. Should have been a short film, 2/10.

Also I find Natalie Portman to be physically repulsive. Such an ugly, unattractive body on her, I do NOT want to see her writhing in a ballet outfit for two hours.

She actually lost a ton of weight for that performance... and she wasn't even that big to begin with. I really like her as an actress but I have no urge to see Black Swan at all.

I like her as an actress depending on the movie. Sometimes I find her to be extremely boring and one-note and this was one of those times. The problem is, her best performance was when she was 12, and it's going to be hard for her to EVER top Leon. Otherwise I think the last time I legitimately liked her was V for Vendetta, but that was still Hugo Weaving's show.

Regardless, I also have this thing about dirty vegan hippies so *shrug*.

Take that as you will.

Irreversible - 9/10

Incredible film. Gasper Noe is a true visual artist. The swooping camera movements, intense low frequency sound, the impression that the whole film is one long shot, the reverse chronological order... I would love to make a film with this style of filmmaking, which looks so original...

Spoiler
I probably wouldn't include a 10 minute anal rape scene in mine, but hey that's just me...

Green Lantern 7/10

I know this one is getting ragged on by critics, and I know people are going to think I'm biased for being a fan of the comics, but it really is a decent/good popcorn movie. I don't know if people were expecting something like The Dark Knight from this one and felt let down, but let's not kid ourselves here: TDK is not a fair comparison. GL, for me was about as entertaining as Thor and First Class for me (ok a little bit of bias coming in there) but I really dug Ryan Reynolds as Hal, Peter Sarsgaard as Hector Hammond and Mark Strong as Sinestro.

I will admit I have a few nit picks about it like that even though its only clocks in at 1h 45mins, it feels longer due to so much exposition given to set up Hal, Hector and Parallax. Another minor gripe is that there wasn't enough of the Corps in it. There's only 1 scene where you see Sinestro and small strike force (G'Hu, Isamot Kol and one other lantern) go up against Parallax and its over before anything happens.

Lastly I've never been fond of CG effects, but here it works well and makes sense. I think the suit looks fine and the constructs looked great. I'd really like to see a sequel, especially if it follows up on the mid credits scene and if Mark Strong returns as Sinestro.

Side note: I did go see it in Real D and while I'm not sold on movies in 3D at least here I felt I got my money's worth; unlike the 20 seconds of Tron Legacy that were in 3D.

I agree that it captured the magic of those movies. I give it an 8-9/10 as well. I also think it was tapping into a little bit of the magic of the movie Explorers.

Super 8 - 8/10

Spielberg production, it's bound to feel like his movies dealing with kids in that age range. The only part of this that kind of keeps it from being a perfect 10 is the Abrams effect. Why does he think lens flare is so cool.. I guess I should say, why does he think THAT MUCH lens flare is so cool? And of course, not much of the stuff you "really care about" is revealed until the end.

What I mean by "stuff you really care about" is the monster aspect. But it's no secret that this is how Abrams operates, so you know these things going in. The movie is very well written, and well Directed. Joel Courtney (Joe Lamb) and even Riley Griffiths (Charlie) are great in this, considering it's their first major film rolls. I was a bit taken aback when I found that out.

Anyways, my gripes with the film stem from my own personal issues at the way JJ Abrams handles some things in his films. This is definitely a must see though.

Enjoyable yes, epic? No. I saw it in 3D it was ok...but so far, this year the better movie to see in 3D was Thor. Why was Amanda Waller not fat? I don't know...Why are all the badass Oa shots the ones they've shown in the trailer? I don't know.

I wish the focused more on the Corps. Shown more Oa, and less Hector Hammond being all weird and possessed. But good movie though.

XXX - I can't figure out if I give it a 2/10 or an 8/10. It was really fun and enjoyable but also so full of bullshit it floats. I'm going with 8/10 because of all the stunts (actually done by people, not computer - remember when stunts were done by people?), plus it had tons of cameos of skate boarders, BMXer's, etc which was really fun to see. Vin Diesel is cool, not the best actor but fun to watch because he's such a toolshed.

Welcome to the Xander Zone!!!!

Green Lantern. Saw it in 2D (yay!). It was entertaining but the film really suffered from a lack of time. If it had another half hour they could have flushed out this movie universe a lot more. 7/10,

It's Goonies meets Cloverfield. I second the 9/10. The bonus credits movie gets 10/10.
