In all honesty I have no idea. Whatever works works. I dont know anything about database stuff and the little I did know was years ago and have not touched it since like 2002 at the earliest.

So if you think you can come up with something in a different more efficient format that is perfectly fine.

I'd love to help, but my programming knowledge is limited to HTML and Actionscript, I've never taken the time to learn perl, java or mysql or any of that stuff. If it's Adobe I know it, otherwise I gots no clue g. Can't wait for it to be added to the site though.

the SQL in the context of this thread was/is the language itself, not any brand of database

with loads of help I think I can help. but Im good only with python (specially django). so the server would need to run it. plus, and app like you are thinking wont be done by the end of the weekend, specially because most people will be doing it on their spare time - and some people will prefer to do other things sometimes that is not coding. and this is a big and not simple app to do.

and I think it would be better if it had no tide connections to the board. i see it as a "social-wiki" - profiles plus general infos (the games)

cheers!

EDIT:
******** IDEA ********
Is anyone interested on assembling a team for this task? I think it can be divided in 3 fronts:

DB: building ( from the models, normalization, queries) and maintaining it.

Coding team: the front and back end.

'Graph' team: xhtml/css, icons, layout and design.

it helps to develop, but the work envirionment will probably be LAMP and is already set (the gh server?). anyway, I dont think we should be talking about which language, webservers or whatever before setting up *how* it is going to be and if is possible to do such thing before the end of the year. the best solution, i think, is to assemble a team for this task.

cheers!

Talk about joining the party late but what is the status of this database? I would love to help but I am swamped with school right now. However if a game plan is ever decided on that can be broken up I would be more than happy to contribute as many hours as I can afford. I have recently had a lot of experience with mySQL and PHP but am no stranger to MS SQL Server and .Net and I just learned postGres DB's as well. what I don't do is graphics.

So basically I can help with the DB design/setup and the HMTL forms used to administrate the DB and the ones the Henchmen and Sidekicks will use to update their collections.

I wish I would have been paying attention to this at the end of August when I had a lot of free time. Now I am in the middle of assignment and midterm hell.

Im doing it already, but all help is really welcome, specially with DB maintaince. Im developing it using Ruby on Rails and the DB will be MySQL - no need for Postgres, imho.

I will send you the scheme latter (I forgot how it is called in english) so you can give your opinion about it.

Cheers!

Now that Im on holidays from college (and have failed in one subject) I will have more time to work on it. I made a schedule and I hope that until the end of the month we will have something - not the fully site, but something with the most common operations.

cheers!

I'm not sure what's going down lately. Jared or Mickey or Andy might be more in the know.
