But yeah, Sony deserves a smoking. I can't say whether or not their security was amazing or not, but this hack was pretty huge.

It isn't even as much about being hacked as it was they tried to sweep it under the rug as "maintenance." They should have said right on day one what happened. Sony lost lots of respect in my eyes.

Hi, i just watched the video smoke you sony on the site, i must say, i disagree with Andy , he's nagging like every other little kid out there that psn is down and hacked, okay true it kinda sucks, and if you have creditcard information out there it totally sucks, but i cant say smoke you sony, i say, SMOKE YOU HACKERS! maybe Sony should have better secuirity but i'm no expert in how that works, i do know that you should stay out of other people's private information/stuff, its like saying for example, you borrowed a game to a friend, your friend goes out of his house and locks his door, then your friends house gets robbed, and they also took your game, do you say to your friend who already lost a lotta stuff, like sony also lost a lot money to this situation, SMOKE you friend, you should have had better locks on your house? No! Okay Sony is a large company with lots and lots of money, but the bad guys here are the hackers, all Sony can do is compromise the damage to the victims, they probably will and must for the most part, but i cant blame Sony here cause ofcourse they never had have ment this to happen, the hackers are to blame, and i hope they catch them, wich they most probably won't. My opnion.

Sony dropped the ball big time.

I was considering getting a PS3 before this and It still hasn't effected my decision (Infamous 2 looks badass) because in the end, it's still a great console and their online services usually aren't this bad. Still, they need to get their shit together.

but yeah, I agree with Andy. Sony aint really my prefered system, but it certaintly doesnt wanna win me over to use it when they cant even handle card information correctly.

I hate the fact that Sony didn't put the information out earlier that potential credit/debit card information has possibly been taken. I blame them for the slow response.

However, to blame Sony is a little silly in my mind. The poster above had a similar mindset. Identity theft/hacked accounts seems to be more and more plausible over the last few years.

A group of hackers have declared war on sony. They've declined responsibility, but I don't know if I'd choose to believe people that are so willing to break the law.

No one knows how secure Sony's information network had been. For all we know it was on tier with Xbox live/Wii account encryption.

Why not blame the asshole/assholes that did the damage instead of blaming the company that's going to lose millions of dollars in revenue in an already ravaged country? Who blames the person/entity attacked?

When you buy a PS3, you are also buying it's online services. If you are going to pay money for something, you should expect it to work (or at least not to fuck you over).

Sony should have had stronger security and should have let us known before it was too late. The bottom line is that Sony is to blame in this situation. They really dropped the ball on this one.

Dude, come on. The Pentagon has been hacked before in the past. How can I blame Sony if one of the most secure mainframes/buildings in the world has been hacked?

I blame Sony for being slow on the draw about potential debit card information. That's it.

If you go to a restaurant and get sick off a burger do you blame the restaurant, distributor, or the cow?

It depends on what made you sick. If it was the cook you blame him, but if the meat was screwed up you blame the distributor.

You don't paint the entire restaurant that made you sick. At least I wouldn't.

A similar comparison would be the victims of 9/11. Should they all sue the Airlines/U.S. government for hijacking airplanes and crashing them into buildings? No. You blame the people that performed the act.

The whole situation is a Catch 22. People seem content to blame Sony for not having the most impenetrable network in the history of mankind. It seems silly to me. I understand being upset about the debit information. I think that's really their only screw up.

With the bad burger scenario, it doesn't matter if it's just bad meat or a bad cook. You still blame the restaurant. If it's bad meat then you ALSO blame the distributor but the restaurant still should have caught it.

As a restaurant owner I can say with 100% assurance that we get blamed first 100% of the time and it is our responsibility to make it right. I can't just bow at them and offer them 10% of their pizza on us as long as they pay for the other 90%.

in seriousness though, im surprised how people are defending Sony for this. If you look past fanboyism or favouratism, its gonna be tough for me to put my information on a sony network, because A) their information got breached once and B) how they reacted to handling the situation was disorganized at best.

and to answer your question, whatever scandal breaks out, it goes out to the highest ranking. in the restaurant question, its the restaurant.

....also, I kinda wanna see someone bow at me if they fucked up in providing a service.

This is what it means to be a business. You become accountable for fuck ups like this, even if it's not your fault directly (and trust me, Sony did fuck up).

The bottom line is that people payed for a PS3, so they should expect a good product, or as I said before, they should at least expect not to get fucked over.

YES Sony should have had much better internet security and YES they should have done much more to prevent people's money being stolen. The blame lies on Sony, end of story.

I laughed pretty hard when i read this one. It amazes me how programmed people are by an electronics company that they would hate for them. What's even funnier is that they become the thing they hate. I never said I loved xbox or i give the hitler salute to Bill Gates but i guess because i dog the competitors new system because I can't justify the investment in my tight budget.
