I'm not an expert on the series but thought this would interest people, Mickey especially,

The show was interesting somewhat but it definitely had some problems. For one, the main protagonist Shinji was a complete puss and the ending was weird and made no sense at all.

Actually it does make sense, my problem is that the philosophy the series preached is complete and utter crap. Just look up JesuOtaku's review of the series, it was like she was in my head.

As for the films, I am interested since this is supposed to be a huge rework of the entire series that fixes the huge issues of the show and the troll of a film that was supposed to answer everything but wound up having Gainax flip the bird to their rabid fanbase by having characters turn into tang, Shinji's robot fucking a giant space vagina and actual death threats the team received being flashed on screen to make the message clear.

Still, I'm wary. Gainax likes to troll. Just look at Panty and Stocking, that's the entire reason the series exists.

I loved You Are (Not) Alone. What I originally thought of as a cash in rehash of the series turned out to be a full on geek out reboot that blew my fucking mind all over again. Updated animation mixed with CG that made my eyes bleed because I was afraid to blink and miss a frame. I am really excited to see how they change the story to include a new pilot (british if I remember right). Insane mind fuck all over again and it couldn't come at a better time.

But there is no denying, that Shinji is a complete pussy and should probably die and be replace by someone badass like Alex Rou from Last Exile (yes, I don't know a lot about anime).

I'll defend him early on since if you saw insane shit like that as a kid, you would probably get a bit tense as well. His attitude later in the series is inexcusable, though.

I watched Last Exile and for the life of me I cannot remember who Alex Rou is, so you know more than I do.

This is playing at the Grand Illusion in Seattle all week starting yesterday. My girl and a buddy of mine are checking it out this afternoon if anyone is in the area and interested in going. Subbed naturally. I'll post my thoughts on it later.

Any word on the dub? I hope they get Tiffany Grant back, IMO she was the best out of the original dub cast, it'd suck not to have her back.

There should be some changes, but I thought it was a solid dub overall.

Shinji's actor should stay because I have heard him break that sissy boy voice before.

Rei's character, or lack thereof, has inspired a lot of characters as well. Yuki Nagato comes to mind. As for Shinji, yeah, Spike Spencer did a good job, and he's got a pretty good range as well.

He also has a stalker obsession with Johnny Yong Bosch.

Edit: Just read up on the dub (imdb lol) and I gotta say, the cast is looking pretty good.

So, just got back a few hours ago. Solid fucking movie. Really fun watching it on a big screen....only problem being that some dude with a bowling ball head sat in front of me with a baseball cap on so I was constantly shifting from side to side to read the subtitles.

1.0 was a pretty cool rehash of the first six or so episodes. 2.0 goes way off with the storyline. It goes in the same direction, but takes some liberties with how it gets there. Certain characters are developed way more, others way less. Some shit that annoyed me in the original series is toned WAY the fuck down which was really nice. The angels were crazy nuts and the animation was top notch.

See this film.

Just so you know, the reason these films are being made is because they want to completely rewrite the last series and go in a completely different direction as it goes on.

Yep, knew that. I was just commenting how 1.0 pretty much followed the original storyline, while 2.0 is where they really went off the map. It still has the same basic ideas and the storyline still is going the same way but it just uses a way different method of travel. The preview for 3.0 was even crazier, so I'm way stoked for that.
