YOU ARE ALL SCRUBS

SUCK MY DI-

In all seriousness, this entire debate is silly. Who cares what it's classified as, just play it if you like it.

Yes, it's a fighting game. It doesn't follow traditional motives and traits, but it's just another idea in the end. It has its own parts to master like any other. The people talking about tournament this and that amuse me because only that small group of people care, and I'm not certain that they make up the majority of sales for fighting games. I chalk that up as a self-importance issue.

However, there are plenty of fighting games out there that are more in depth. They're not something that is broken out to amuse friends at parties, and they don't become boring. Someone who enjoys the game will work his ass off to become the best he can be at the game, and that's fine. I did it with UMK3, and I know plenty of guys who do this with SFIV/MvC 2. DTT even held a tournament showcasing how badass dedicated players can be. Don't write these guys off out of anger or frustration. It's stupid to do so.

You guys forgot to outright tell UntitledProject that he and his fighting buddies are a bunch of idiots and should leave this place and never return. They already got that message but I'm sure all of you want to be crystal clear seeing as how they're so stupid.

No. The people making it go off the rails need to be issued warnings. :psycho:

We gladly welcome them with open arms. I'm just saying that anybody who goes out of there way to say "Smash Brothers is a game for babies, it's nowhere near as awesome or serious business as Street Fighter. It's not even a fighting game, etc. etc. scrubs, etc." needs punched in the face.

I don't see them doing that here. So I don't see why they should feel unwelcome.

This topic has made me look back on my original post with regret at how ignorantly I acted. I appreciate their input and it's changed my views about the fighting genre and those who passionately enjoy it, if ever so slightly. People who make others feel shitty about their games or try to exclude them from a "cool kids club" are what I'm griping on in my rage filled rant, but I directed it at a group of people and a genre. :(

As for the genre debate, unless someone can say otherwise, Smash Brothers is a Fighting Game by all genre specifics. It has very little if anything in common with the Party Game genre as a whole short of it being a 4 player game.

EDIT: Also, there is NO NEED for backseat moderating or saying "This shouldn't get locked, shut your face!" or "This should be locked" or any other sort of shennanigary, if you're not going to discuss the main topic and/or make references to a debate that happened elsewhere, please remove yourself from this thread.

Did I already mention that it has an extensive platforming section to the game?

Just throwing it out there.

Also MK Deception and Armegedon had an action adventure mode too.

Word.

That stuff falls into my "Fighting Games Need to Evolve" rant/wall of text I had posted earlier. Just because fighting games do stuff like that doesn't make them less of a fighting game and part of some other genre. I mean, I'd consider "Custom Robo" a fighting game, even if it's not in the traditional sense. Although maybe it's more of an Action RPG in that regard, but it does have a Vs. mode that is a pretty big part of the game.
