Another local guy. It's been a very sad week in the hockey world. Really liked the tribute they did for him at the Leafs/Habs game on Saturday. Pat Burns will surely be missed.

The more Crosby matures the more I'm starting to like him. It seems like he's FINALLY gotten over his crybaby whining stage and is starting to take care of business. He's becoming more defensively aware, which will make him a better overall player and he's actually looking like a true leader, not just the golden boy who was given the captaincy. Good job Sid, now keep it up and stick up for your players more and drop the gloves! I have total respect for any super star that isn't afraid to stick up for their teammates and fight.

I've always liked him, a little less through his mouth off the ref stage but I expect that much from any kid who is thrown uber attention, money and fame in a specific community, they become a lil big for their britches. He was young, he has matured, and his best years are still far ahead of him.

Didn't like him because he came off as spoiled and the league would whore him around. Seeing him hit, fight, play defensively AND still be in the top two in the league for scoring's starting to turn me around. Still has a long way to go before he's up there with Stevie Y though and I still say Toews is a all around better player than he is (mostly because of his defensive ability and maturity for his age).

No, he's from Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia not PEI.

Probably because he's an East Coaster. Most people from out there praise NHL stars that hail from any of those provinces as their own as most are quite small towns. When you have the currently the best hockey player in the world coming from around your area of course you're going to be proud (even if PEI isn't NS). Seriously, what else would Cole Harbour be known for besides Crosby?

Now just wait, if Brad Richards (actually from PEI) gets traded to the Leafs as all these rumours say might happen watch everyone in those provinces go nuts and the Leafs really push his name. Frankly, I think it's incredibly stupid for the Leafs to trade for him if they're seriously trying to rebuild the franchise. They lost the second overall pick last year and are losing their first round pick AGAIN this year to Boston from the Kessel trade and they'll need to at least give up another first round pick to pick up Richards. If Brian Burke's smart, and that's debatable, he'll wait until the off season and try to sign Richards so he doesn't lose any more assets. Leafs have a good defence but their forwards need a ton of work and giving up high first round picks isn't helping them.

I take it you're from PEI then? Nice province. Was there about 10 years ago!

I like Brad Richards, very underrated player (not so much this year as he's lighting it up) but if he does end up with the Leafs it's law that I have to hate him. Once again, who knows if the trade will happen.

YEAH! its sort of nice alot different though if you have lived here from birth haha but yeah I saw brad a few times he used to play on a local team here from time to time it was always sort of exciting to see him play knowing he was in the NHL. I have talked to him a few times too a few years back I am not sure if he still does but he had like a party sort thing or get together for all of his fans here I went to one a while back and just stole a bunch of beer from his cooler with my friends :teehee:

Burke needs to learn what Pittsburg, Washington, Chicago, and LA have proven..you build a team through draft picks

Crosby, Flurey, Malkin
Ovy, Semin, Valamov/Newerth
Toews, Kane
Doughty, Quick,

These guys were no accident...So far Kessel has been a bust, but that could be for a number of reasons..he has no support, he isn't the player everyone expected him to be, the list can go on and on..I think if the Leafs let him go and took Seguin, and grew him and Kadri together, they would become a potent line but that would be still 2-3 years from now.

The only team who is the exception to this rule would have to be Detroit, they always have a solid team and their formula seems to always been veterans

Detroit has the best scouts in the league and have done the best drafting in the league. Think about it, they've been one of the top 5 teams in the league for over a decade now. It takes some amazing drafting, especially in the cap era, to be that good for so long. Also, the team chemistry's amazing. Apparently if you join the Wings you never want to leave the team.

I don't know what to think about Burke. The main problem with Kessel's that he as no one to play with. Seriously, their forwards are terrible (especially up the middle). People talk about Kadri like he's the second coming of Clark or something, but seriously, at best he's a second liner. Burke needs to start drafting and not looking to players like Richards as a solution as it won't help the Leafs move forward, just sideways. Hell, the Sens have way better prospects coming up than the Leafs in the next few years and they've only missed the playoffs once in the last 13-14 years. Burke isn't going to be fired so he should just continue with that he originally said and rebuild the Leafs from the ground up if he wants the team to ever see the playoffs again.

I don't think Kadri is the second coming of anyone, he is a player with a unique skill set and is fun to watch. With the right mentor he will be an excellent player in the league one day.

I don't think their scouting is solid, I mean they tried to bring in a youthful tender and work from the back out..like Burke always seems to do, but with The Monsters health problems it set him back and they go out and get an aging goaltender like Guigure that should be a starter for low end team like Atlanta, or Tampa but instead comes to a top market team like Toronto..I don't understand why...

he has done a lot to reduce the age of the Leafs roster, they are fairly young all around but they need an offense, its really scary..

On an unrelated note..why the HELL is Steve Mason still the starter for Columbus..when Garon has won 5 of 5 with 3 SO's ?

I think you want Garon to start more because you have him in the pool!

Mason started the season meh but is playing better now. Mason is the better goalie so they have to stick with him.

Stats so far this season would disagree with you on that.

I went 8-5-1 last week, which isn't too shabby, considering that it wasn't exactly my best week. My assists and power play could have been better, but my goalies made up for it. Thanks for the shutout, Brian. :-D

Our matchup begins tonight, Canuck.
