Hey, are there any references/throwforwards/reveals that involve me having knowledge of MGS4's plot? I'm behind in my MGS games but want to check out Peace Walker for my PSP. Is it safe? Will I be missing out on anything?

That was pretty funny.

But to answer the question, MGS Peace Walker is a sequel to Portable Ops and MGS 3. So, no knowledge of MGS4 is needed.

If I still had a PSP I'd probably get it.

This game is worth getting a PSP for. Even if you only play Peace Walker, it would be money well spent.

Question: Will I need to play Portable Ops to understand the story of Peace Walker? Or can I just straight up play it?

I haven't picked this up yet, but I will since Metal Gear is one of the few series that I've beaten every game in. Well, every canonical title, plus Ghost Babel and Snake's Revenge. I never got into the Acid games much. I tried but they just couldn't hold my attention.

I don't really know yet if you need to play Portable Ops before Peace Walker yet. I'd say it's probably stand alone enough to where you'd be ok, but I'm also the type that is sort of picky about stuff like that. Unless the prequel really sucked or had absolutely nothing to do with the game, a la Red Steel 2, then I almost always make myself play the prequel first.

No need to play Portable Ops, it seems more of a sequel to MGS3 than Portable Ops, although they claim it to be a sequel to Portable Ops. I personally haven't finished Portable Ops and am enjoying it just fine.

I probably enjoyed those, along with Solid Snake, more than any other Metal Gear game. Well, except for MGS3, although most of the tedious (not hard, tedious) boss fights, unnecessary and unnecessarily tedious final boss fight, terrible theme song, and mostly horrendous plot did a lot to try to make me not enjoy it. It didn't work, you fuckers!

I began playing Peace Walker and during the tutorial at the beginning, it took me a while to get used to the controls.

The guy kept saying, "That is incorrect, Boss!"

I didn't really like this game that much. Probably just because the PSP controls. It was kinda flunky for me

Would have been much better if it has a second analog stick. PSP2, perhaps...

This.

So far I'm only on the 3rd mission or maybe it's the 3rd part of the first mission, and I've died several times because of the controls. The lack of a secon analog stick is huge. It's gotten so bad for me that lately I haven't even wanted to play it. I'm really surprised the game has not been criticized more for the controls; every review I've read is glowing.
