I want to upgrade my computer to be much better.
But, I'll need to know what Processor, RAM, Hard drive, Video Card, etc. that I will need.

Here are my specs (I think):
Compaq Presario
AMD Sempron(tm) 3000+
2.00 GHz, 768 MB of RAM
Asus ATI HD 2600 PRO (The compatibility is AGP)

So, if anybody could tell me what I might need to upgrade my computer, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

How large is the budget for this upgrade?

It all depends on what I require and to see if I can find the right Motherboard, Video card, RAM and Processor for my Compaq. I will try to put up pictures on what the inside of my computer is like now soon.

I'm assuming we're talking about an ATX or Micro ATX case, right?

Why does it have to be inside the Presario case? If you're intending on buying a new motherboard, why wouldn't you spring the ~$80 USD or so for a new case?

It would actually help more if you stated what country you live in. If it's in the US are you in the continental US? (Determines where you can buy parts from and what/if warranties apply to you) It'd also help if you explained what you'd like to use it for. (Internet, Video, Games, etc If you want it for games you should say how well you want them to run.)

I live in Canada and I'm not in a city so it's a little tough going to a computer store and asking what I will need. Also, I will be using the computer for gaming and internet (obviously). I already have a PC case, but I cannot use it yet until I find a new motherboard and my hard drive can't fit into the PC case. I will try to post pictures of the inside of my computer, but right now photobucket is down. Don't worry though, I will post pictures soon to see what people will suggest what I will need.

I'm not very experienced when it comes to upgrading a computer and adding new things to it and finding out what will fit and what's compatible. Is there a possible way of sending in my computer to a computer store or something and let them upgrade it for me and they'll send the bill? Just curious.

I agree with Crono. Chances are also that you might need a new power supply, and buying a case with a power supply included is often almost as cheap as buying just the case.

I do have a new power supply and it fits really well in my computer. Anyway, here are the pictures of my computer. Tell me what I should get or whatever. Some of these pictures look bad, so I'm sorry if they're not very good.

Those look like regular PCI slots. Are they? And if so you'll definitely need a new motherboard if AGP is your only other option.
Also, if Im not mistaken that's a micro ATX case.

What kind of budget are we talking here, btw? And do you have any preference in regards to manufacturer? Intel or AMD? Nvidia or ATI?

I'm more of an ATI Radeon guy or AMD. But, I'll take anything that'll make my computer awesome.

They all do good stuff. But again. You have to tell us your price range or else we won't be able to help you.

Huh, looks like one of my old motherboards. :-o

Anyways, if you feel assembling new PC is a headache, most computer stores do sell complete PC kits.
Also yes, I believe there are stores who can the upgrade it for you, but then it's probably a lot cheaper to just a buy complete new one.

Edit
Nah, it was different but similar to my old mobo. Anyways, the model is A7VBX-LA, it's of mATX (Micro-ATX) size.

Okay well, I will try to list off the things I would like to have to make my computer awesome. Here goes:

ATI Radeon™ HD 5970
Jetway HA04
Cougar 1000CM
Silverstone Kublai SST-KL03S
Thermaltake Bigwater 760i

I don't know. Something like that? (I'm no computer expert).

If you're willing to shell out that much, the 5970 wont dissapoint. That's a card that will last you for quite a while.

But I thought you were looking to keep the original case and power supply. Changed your mind?

As for processor and memory. Make sure to get at least 4gb or ram. In regards to the processor. You don't need the most powerful processor since you're building a gaming rig. Most games today don't make full use of more than two cpus. Unless you're favorite game is some multi threaded cpu heavy game, two cores will do the job just find. The AMD Athlon II X2 250, is a pretty good example of a cheap and still competent processor.

The liquid cooling might be a bit overkill. Besides draining more power, it costs allot more than just investing in a bunch of quiet fans (and customizing your settings with fan control).

Well, as said, I'm no computer expert. Okay, so I'll need to make a list on the things I will need for my PC.
