Im sure many of you PS3 owners already know this but around 4PM today the PSN network went for a shit. Apparently the network decided to reset all non Slim PS3 systems back to December 31 1999 and is causing errors like crazy. All the trophies are messed up because they came after the date that the systems are set to. Thinking you hacked your PS3 so it wont even let you play games offline.

Its all messed up. People are deleting their caches and resetting their clocks to try and fix the problem but its not fixing anything. The second the PS3 attempts to connect to the PSN network again it resets the date back to December 31 1999 and it all goes for a shit again and people have deleted all their saved files for nothing.

Sony says they are working to fix the problem, but honestly there is no date or time frame when this will be. There are millions of Sony brand paper weights now that wont let you do anything with them other than access the main system menus.

Some people are assuming that since the PS3 calender is setup so that every even year it counts the 29th of February as existing and the network itself not, it randomly glitched out. Instead of counting it every 4 years. This would make sence I guess. Its trying to load a day from the system that doesnt exist on the network. This would also account for the Slim systems working and the older ones not. As they might of changed this glitch in the newer hardware software.

Anyways just to let everyone know, dont delete your files or change the date hoping it will fix something, because it will do nothing other than delete your stuff. Wait for Sony to come out with a patch or something to solve the problem. Hopefully soon.

My brother has a PS3 and he was telling me about this. At first he thought something was wrong with his system. He even deleted two of his dynamic themes because he thought those were the problem.

But then he went on the net and found out what was going on. Now he's pissed because he deleted them for no reason and just lost one of his five times to re-download content without having to pay for it again.

I haven't turned on my PS3 since I finished Bioshock 2 about a week ago, and I guess I don't really plan on doing so anytime soon, so hopefully if I wait long enough I won't be affected.

It doesn't have anything to do with PSN. It's an internal hardware error effecting older fat models. I have 2 PS3s, one old fat and one very recent one and the recent one still works fine. On the old one I get all the errors mentioned all over the internet.

It started exactly at 12:00 UTC for me, I was actually playing on my old console (DMC1, yay BC) and it signed out of PSN and that was it. DLC's not working on that system now, and neither are games that have trophy support, or games that have DLC installed. Because of the time fuckup none of the DRM is working. (Yay, for DRM... fuckers)

Anyway, it's a hardware issue and at the very least it would almost certainly be solved at 12:00 UTC this night. Regardless, this is a pretty damn stupid bug and it annoys the shit out of me, since I almost exclusively use my old PS3...

At any rate, there really should be no worries about turning on your PS3 today, a lot of shit won't work though, but if you want to play games without trophy support that should be fine.

Anyway: THIS IS NOT A PSN ISSUE. You are either affected, or you're not. Turning on your PS3 will not do any permanent damage, the worst case scenario is that you will have to re-download all your DLC from your PSN account.

I turned mine on around 10 pm est yesterday and got the error message when trying to start Heavy Rain...so by telling us not to turn on our systems (to avoid these errors) does this mean ps3 users who already have will have a corrupt system?

I have an original 60 gb...I like my original 60 gb...

Well, I'm not authority on the matter in any way, but from my understanding of computers, operating systems and encryption (used with the DRM and trophy stuff) I'd say that the worst that could have happened is that you need to re-download your games and patches.

The savedgames and other data you created yourself are either not encrypted or only signed (not sure, once again, I'm not an expert) because those can be moved to different PS3 systems.

Please note that this is speculation, I have no access to the PS3's sourcecode but I'd say that it's a safe bet that everything you can transfer from one PS3 to another would be safe.

At least, I'm not particularly worried, and I'm affected as well.

This sounds familiar. Didn't this happen last year as well? I think I remember something like this happening to either the PS3 or another system last year.
