That saddens me on the inside. Instead of eating McDonalds that month just skip it and therey ou go, you just paid for 2 months of xbox live. Problem solved.

Problem with that logic is, its 7.99? For one Month, so buying month by month is a shitton, and sure buying year by year is 50 dollars. But you know what. That is another goddamn game. Would you rather have saay some game you've been waiting for, that has a multiplayer aspect, or have to get xbox live and not play the single player of it anyhow. It just kinda blows thats all.

Considering you have PC online gaming which is free, wii online gaming which is free, and psn which is free. The 360 is the only one on the market that makes you pay to play online, even after you bought the full 60 dollar game, and then you still get ads on the 360 gold membership. Thats bullshit.

I'd rather buy food than pay to play video games online, especially when I do it for free all the time on my PC. PSN and the Wii online ... thing ... may very well suck (haven't tried PSN, but I can verify that the Wii really does suck online), but the PC is still the unrivalled king of online gaming. I can play Quake III in my goddamn Internet browser, and it's free. I can play online, use voice chat, enter lobbies, etc. and it's all free.

Xbox Live gives you one unified system for all of your games and friends, but so does Steam, and so did GameSpy Arcade back in the day. Steam is free, GSA was free (unless you wanted to remove advertisements). Xbox Live is $50/$60 per year. Why?

A silver account is just a way of letting users who won't spend $50/$60 annually pay for DLC. You can't do the one thing that you really want to do (play online), but you can still give them your money. BS.

Seriously. It's $5 a month. Cut back on the junkfood or the coffee or whatevery ou spend your money on SLIGHTLY and it's easily paid for.

Hell they even give you a free month if you buy it from a store. So Really its $4.50 a month.

Uh, no, its like 50 dollars a year. Doing the math on a calculator (fuck you, I suck at math) its like 4.17 dollars a month. Even if you have a silver memebership which is free you can still pretty much do everything a gold membership can except play games online. You can still download stuff, watch movies, listen to music, download updates, and communicate with friends.

Its just silver sucks and if you want to talk with more than 1 person you cant , welcome to the real reason I use gold , party chat :-D

You can party chat with a silver membership. I've done it before.

Also, I don't get why people say "Xbox live has ads" I've never seen a single ad on the service. The only thing I see that comes close to ads are the gamer pictures and themes made by companies like Doritos, McDonalds, Verison, and Axe.

BTW, my gamer picture is now a McDonalds cheeseburger. xD.

I dunno what Xbox Live you're playing on, but you're completely wrong. Maybe you were in a private chat and thought it was a party chat. And about the ads, there are ads in a lot of the headers on the dashboard.

I agree with you on the PC thing. But here in lies the problem. 1 - Not all games I want to play are on the PC. 2- I cant sit on my comfortable living room furnature and play games on my PC. and the worst of all #3 upgrading your computer will allow you to (possibly) play the newest games for only a short period until you are required to upgrade again. All 3 are rectified by playing on the 360
$95.88
And to whoever said it's 7.99 for live per month you need help in math, 7.99 a month is: $95.88

ITs 7.99 if you pay month to month. Do not assume that everyone pays 50 a year. its 20 for 3 months. Now you get the picture.

Fact - The purpose of a for-profit business is to make money. Lots of it.
Microsoft = For-profit business.
Xbox live fee = Money....lots of it.

Issue resolved.

Thanks for numbering your concerns. It makes replying to them a lot simpler.

1. Can't really refute that. If the games you want to play are on consoles, that's where you need to go.

2. Most graphics cards these days have an HDMI port. Plug in your TV and grab a wireless keyboard/mouse.

3. It's a misconception that you have to be constantly upgrading your computer in order to play the newest games. Not every developer is out to release a tech demo like Crysis. My PC is five years old and I could play Dead Space with everything cranked up except for one shader setting.

People also like to max out their graphics settings when they play PC games and base their hardware requirements on that. You're already taking a graphical hit when you play on a console, so why not turn down the settings when you play on your PC?

Supply and demand dictates that businesses will charge whatever consumers are willing to pay. The debate here is whether or not people are willing to pay. I'm not.

There is such an issue known as business ethics. Is increasing consumer costs simply because you can justified?

No, it is not justified, and I'm another of the folks who refuses to pay.

IF YOU ARBITRARILY RAISE A PRICE OR CHARGE FOR SOMETHING YOU DIDN'T CHARGE FOR BEFORE, I'M DONE WITH YOU.

Never seen them. I just logged onto live today to be sure and didn't see any. Unless you count those things they advertise on the service that talk about things you can download on Xbox live or other Xbox live related stuff.

I would argue that Microsoft's online services excel in the department of download speeds for content delivery. I download a lot of content onto my Xbox, and at their speeds I'm able to get a gigabyte of data in under 5 minutes. To get speeds that fast they have to open data centres all around the world to give users good streaming in their region. My PS3's incoming files are significantly slower (albeit, only in comparison to XBL), so in that regard I have no problem paying that service fee. $50 over a year is negligible to most working people.

In the end, as many people have said - it's a business and their job is to generate revenue.

I don't see how dowload speed should even be accounted for when evaluating weather or not its justified paying for something that's free everywhere else. Does it really matter if you have to wait a couple of minutes extra? I you have to wait 15min instead of 5min isn't really a big deal.

I don't know what kind of speed I would get with an Xbox, but I can also pull down a gig in less than five minutes over PSN and Steam. And they're both free which means I can spend an extra 50$ on games every year.
