When I was in school. I read this trilogy because my teacher said I could never read it in a week
Image

not only was I gobsmacked and couldn't put it down, I was stunned by the level of darkness that the "hero" fell into. This is not light reading material but if you give it a try you'll find it an amazing read

I remember Beebee Gunn and Ray Gunn. That was my first introduction to play on word names, then Akira Toriyama came along and blew my mind open. Also, I remember reading one of the chapters upside down.

I'm not a massive reader, but I have some books I do adore. Take Superfudge, that was just brilliant.

However, my fave book is without question:

Image

Anyone who doesn't like this book because the main character is gay can suck it. This is one of the best coming of age stories I've ever read, and it's also a great parody of superhero stories. If Hollywood made a movie, the final battle would take all of Transformers 2's budget just to pull off, I shit you not.

Also, 2001 and Frankenstein are just fantastic.

It's a collection of pretty messed up short stories based in an Apocalyptic future that got that way because of too much drug use and self indulgence. Think Tales From the Crypt on acid. It's written by...I think he's a tattoo artist out of PDX. All the stories in there had been published in magazines and whatnot and he just put them all together.

Kind of surprised I'm the first to mention House of Leaves. By far one of the most unique reads you'll ever come across. The book is written from two perspectives. There's a book within the book written by a blind man analyzing a fictional documentary about a family that moves into a house that is somehow connected to a labyrinth and its affects on the family; but you're also reading it from the perspective of a guy who found the old blind man's writings and he provides his own interpretations to the story. As the book progresses the younger guy slowly starts losing his mind as he goes deeper into the story and in turn so do you as the reader.

But that's only the half of it. The book starts you off with some footnotes on each page, but as it progresses the footnotes get longer, and they then get they're own footnotes and then shit like this gets thrown at you
Spoiler
Image
And that one of the easier pages

The good news though is that the book sort of tricks you into learning how to read it as you go along. The only negative thing I can say is this is NOT a book you can read a bit and then put it down for a week/month a jump back in. Once you start have a few bookmarks (you'll need more than one) at hand and read as much as you can each day. The story within the story is one of the most intriguing and ultimately heartwarming stories I've read in a while. When I finished it I ended up talking a few friends into picking up a copy and I bought another copy to give to my girlfriend as a gift.

Maybe I'll finally read a "real" book.... House of Leaves looks scary heady/confusing though.

That was my impression too at first, but its not that hard once you start. The two stories are pretty easy to follow. Next time you're at a book store and come across it, turn to page 3 where the Navidson Record starts and read a few pages. If you buy it though don't skip the stuff prior to that.

Also, I forgot to mention this but you should pick up the full color version. Its the most widely available, cheapest, and most updated version.

I remember reading Ender's Game back in eighth grade. I also read Hatchet and my personal favorite book that I read as a kid, The Mouse and the Motorcycle.

These are my absolute favorite books:

To Kill A Mockingbird
The Inferno
The Great Gatsby
The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock
The Wasteland
The Pearl
Of Mice and Men

And a book that I'll never forget has to be The Very Hungry Caterpillar. That book was my childhood.
