The Guild, Issue #1

Story by Felicia Day
Art by Jim Rugg

I'm not going to elaborate too much. Chances are you've heard of the Web series and/or have watched it. If not, Felicia Day was the chick from Dr. Horrible. If you don't know what that is, you're a pretty bad excuse for a geek, use the Internet some more please. I personally never watched the web series past the first episode, but I remember it becoming a huge deal because it made fun of MMO and geek culture. The basic concept is, all these people play an online RPG that's a parody of World of Warcraft and Everquest and other Fantasy MMO titles, and it talks about their in-game and out-of-game lives. This first issue serves as a prequel and backstory to the main character's real life. As I'm describing it, I realize it's a lot like the .Hack series, except lest Anime-esque and less serious. It's got some great humor, very "Wheedon" feeling in a way, and since it's written by Felicia Day it feels just like the web series, even the art is spot on in style and the characters look enough like their actors that you feel comfortable with them. Overall, kudos to Jim Rugg and Felicia Day for getting me interested in The Guild. Give it a shot, you may just find that you enjoy it.

I've been meaning to watch the Guild for a while now since I hear it's good. And she did a good job in Dr. Horrible. I might check this out if I can get it in TPB or as a downloadable comic.
