And here I expected to be totally lost by this episode since I've only seen parts here and there of a handful of anime and seen the entirety of maybe...3 of them?
But then the first like 20 minutes or so seemed to be all about Dragonball. So yay for familiarity!
Since I just finished Death Note for the second time straight (the second time watching it in English and with my nephew) I guess it's time to pick a new series to check out.

Except for a couple back to back popping noises while I think Mongo was talking at some point towards the end of the episode the audio was much better this time around.

I can give you some ideas of shows to watch if you let me know what genres you're into. I'm wondering what back popping you're talking about. I should go back and listen.

Well I'm not really "into" anything specific. The only stuff I'm familiar with has all been Shonen anime but that's almost just by chance (it's what Toonami used to show) with the exception of Dragonball wich I've been into forever and Death Note wich I checked out just out of curiosity.

So really anything will do :-) . Just throw them out there and I'll check 'em out eventually.
Though I was thinking about checking out Trigun or Hajime no Ippo (again, pure curiosity).

As for the popping, I can't remember what was being talked about at the time but it was definitly somewhere after the halfway mark.

Here is a quick list of things that are good that are easy to pick up and get right into.

Fullmetal Alchemist
Hajime no Ippo
Gungrave
Trigun
Monster
Full Metal Panic - combines comedy, slice of life school days, and mechas for a fun time
Cowboy Bebop - a standard among most people for watching as a gateway anime
Macross - for the classic sci fi fan
GTO/Great Teacher Onizuka - this one is about a punk turned teacher and it's really funny
Read or Die

That's a list of stuff to look up information on. If any of those peak your interest, I think you should check them out. I tried not to give you titles about Japanese High School life or other random things like that because I have no clue if that's the type of stuff you would be interested in. This is a pretty decent starting point though.

I think it's a good bet to watch ANY of our "Top 3 Anime" and you'll find good stuff. :)

I agree with this list. I'd recommend starting out with Cowboy Bebop and Trigun since they are the shortest and easiest to get into...

Yamagato Industries Business Report

Issue 3:
http://www.thegamevillains.com/podcast/issue03.mp3

Here we go guys, Issue #3, we added a little spice to things and focused on a specific sub-genre of comics. I'll avoid spoiling it here in the description, just give it a listen instead! This one clocks in at roughly 30-35 minutes. I hope you enjoy!

If you'd like to help promote us you can currently link them over to our temporary archive site @
Yamagato Industries Business Report (Yes, we're using thegamevillains.com for the time being, the April Fools site is still around for those who still want to show it to some folks for lulz, it's just in a different location. A link to that site can be found on our archive page.)

Soon enough. Possibly tonight. Depends on how long it takes me. It took me an hour or two for just these 30 minutes for some reason.

I jumped around with the first one, but I listened to the second one all the way and I'd have to say it's pretty good. I'm a little disappointed that you spent so much time on Dragonball Z, since I've never been interested in the series, but it's nice listening to you guys list your top three and why you liked them. I think I've been listening to Link too much though because I could see his top three coming a mile away. <_<

Downloading issue 3 right now.

Yeah, DBZ was pretty topical, and well, hey it's pretty "Anime 101" for most people so it wasn't a bad starting Anime issue. Our BETTER Part 1 didn't focus as much on DBZ, we actually talked about Anime and Weeaboos and a ton of great stuff you'll never hear again. :)

Were my Top 3 really that obvious? I didn't think I hyped Gungrave or Boogiepop as much as I do Kaiji, haha.

Annual 1:
http://www.thegamevillains.com/podcast/annual01.mp3

Listen to our thoughts and feelings regarding the Wolverine film that came out last week. 50 minutes of discussion goodness in this first ever Annual. For those who may be a little confused, an Annual is when we break the normal mold/format and focus on a VERY specific topic, whether it's an individual comic, a movie, an event, or whatever. Feedback is greatly appreciated (Send me a PM or leave a reply!)

I knew you liked Gungrave a lot back in the HT days, and Boggiepop Phantom was more of a guess then anything.

I apologize for the DBZness Sollah, but the fact that we spent so long on it shows how important it was to us to getting into other anime. I know I wouldn't be as huge into it without that show's influence. I have seen lots of other anime though, my mal says I have 317 completed entries, so I have a vast background. I will be reviewing anime in upcoming one-shots that will be like little 4-5 min reviews of each show. They should be fun to make.

A "toolbox" Link? How ya gonna rag on my man Cyke like that?

Ah, anyway. Good episode guys.
Seems like feelings on this movie are pretty universal. Like for example, everyone liked Wade, everyone hated the bullets, everyone liked Sabretooth, everyone noticed crappy claw and face (Xavier) special effects, etc, etc.
This is the third or fourth discussion I've listened to about the movie and they all say the same things, good or bad. I just thought that was interesting.

I don't have much to add since I have pretty much the same feelings. Just a couple little things.

I wonder why, instead of a misc. old couple they didn't use James and Heather Hudson, since they were the ones who took Wolverine in in the comics?
It would have been a nice nod to the fans and while those characters could do more than just be cameos, it's not like FOX has any problem just tossing in characters for the fuck of it, so at least this one would have made sense. I mean, let's face it, it's not like they're going to do an Alpha Flight movie so ya may as well use them while you can.

^ not really a gripe or anything, just a thought.

Also, just to throw it out there. The Weapon X stuff (Wolverine getting kidnapped, experimented on, escaping, all that jazz) was actually first shown in 1991 in like, 10? 12? something like that issues of "Marvel Comics Presents" starting with issue #72 or #73.

Yeah, its a not a fairly old story for the character, but its something that has become rather canonical for him. Really, the desire to tie this movie in with X2 was its downfall. It tried to do both the canonical origin and its own thing with Stryker at the same time...and that just wasn't going to work. But oh well...I'm tired of all discussion involving this movie. This annual definitely put me over the top...

Just finished listening to the Annual. It was pretty entertaining. Nice to listen to people rip that movie apart (it deserved it). Though, Kaiji music felt a little out of place there. <__<

You guys should talk about the new Star Trek movie and how awesome it is in the next podcast by the way. If any of you are Trekkies it'd be even better. >__>

Glad you enjoyed the annual. I'm not a Trekkie, but I thought that movie kicked ass. Even my girlfriend was a big fan and she's pretty much never seen anything Star Trek related in her life.

Issue 4:
http://www.thegamevillains.com/podcast/issue04.mp3

We did things a little differently this time. We decided to just sit down and just give you a power hour of straight up Comics. We discuss this week's comics and next week's comics. We felt that this week was just too awesome in the Comic department to do a random anime episode. We also went a little extra crazy and decided to do things "Unplugged" or "Back to Basics" and skip on the background music. We also decided to overuse the word "We" in this summary.

We're going to try and keep things updated on a weekly basis with new episodes being released on the weekends. :)
