Never really showed interest in Star Wars comics. Maybe it's because I'm not much of a Star Wars goer anymore.

Neither am I. Over the course of a year or so Trek overtook my Star Wars love. But as I said there is ALWAYS a Star Wars comic on the go.

There is ALWAYS something Star Wars on the go...

There is ALWAYS something Star Wars on the go...

There are a lot of crap Star Wars books...but then there are some real good ones.

The old Tales of the Jedi books (the one's that came out before the prequels even were being planned) those were good because they came out back in the day when Star Wars wasn't exactly the milk cow it is today and a lot of thought went into the stories, characters and lore. Same goes for a lot of the books that came out then too.

Star Wars: Republic and Star Wars: Empire are also really great series. One deals with the tales of the Jedis starting 100 years before Episode IV and chronologically moves all the way into the Clone Wars and those stories are really cool and well written and actually do a good job of writing Anakin Skywalker's character despite what George and Hayden did to the character. Empire is a cool perspective on the Rebellion between Episodes IV and V.

Legacy is an interesting read, and it definitely isn't as straight forward as you might think. It's 100 years after Return of the Jedi. Yes, there is a Skywalker and yes, there is a new Dark Lord...and yes, even the Empire is back. But the similarities end there. In fact, the new Skywalker despises his lineage and is a drugged out bounty hunter, the new Dark Lord has some shocking secrets, and the best part? The Empire are actually the good guys with their own Jedi Knights. Yeah, that last one intrigued me too. So, Legacy is actually an interesting one to look into.

Aside from those and the Purge one-shots I've talked about, the rest are meh. The new Knights of the Old Republic stories are a mixed bag.

I'm surprised they didn't adapt Death Troopers into a comic or Graphic Novel.

Give it some time.

Also, I'm most intrigued by the KOTOR stuff, if only because I feel it has a greater chance for being considered canonical since it doesn't have to directly compete with the movies storylines and feels more based off the Bioware franchise. Clone Wars is just apathy for most people due to Episode I through III I would imagine, and the animated movies and cartoons and other shit.

I had no clue JMS left Wonder Woman and Supes... And now he's back on my shit list for it. I was actually enjoying both of those books. I wish Rucka was still around because he could save Wonder Woman (again). Here hoping they don't give it to James Robinson, Grant Morrison or G. Willow Wilson (who just wrote Superman 704 as a one shot fill in). I wouldn't mind JT Krul, Judd Winick or Paul Cornell taking over either of those.

And even though Earth One Superman may have sold well I have yet to come across anyone say anything good about it.

From what I understand KOTOR and KOTOR2 are canon. In fact, the game makes references to people and events from Tales of the Jedi, that I mentioned.

They are mentioned in detail in this chronology found on Wikipedia...not the best source, but still fun to read. Lightsabers were apparently built around 9,500 years before the Battle of Yavin. I just thought that was a cool date, even though I have no idea where that date came from...

And even though Earth One Superman may have sold well I have yet to come across anyone say anything good about it.

Just read it. Just a reboot origin tale. Has its moments, but ultimately, it's pretty meh. JMS is trying to make Superman/Clark Kent into Spider-Man/Peter Parker.

Clark is unsure what to do with his life, but his Uncle Ben, I mean...adopted father tells him blah blah power blah blah responsibility. Clark even considers using his powers at first for financial gain by trying out for a professional football team. Yep. You read that right.

Not to spoil anything as far as plot but in the end, people are not as trustful of Superman as you'd first expect so many of them are not sure if he's a hero or a menace.

So yeah, I feel JMS tried to write an interesting new origin tale but instead ripped off Spider-Man when it came to some of the character points. The art was pretty good but nothing to scream about. And Superman's look isn't bad...but his "nerdy" Clark Kent is actually pretty damn hilarious when you first see it.

Oh and the villain is completely forgettable. His motives do bring up some unanswered questions that will most likely be answered in future stories, but even that isn't really that intriguing to me.

Also, there's one panel that is really confusing me. There's a panel where is shows a flashback of Clark when he was about 10 years old or so....and he's getting beaten up by a bully. Like a bully is punching him in the face and Clark falls to the ground. Oh...maybe in this version, he doesn't develop his powers until later? Nope, another flashback later...this one showing him as an infant, shows a moment where his newly adoptive parents are shocked to see that the infant twisted a tire iron into a pretzel. So....powers right off the bat....how in the world did that bully not break his hand???

Honestly, JMS really pisses me off at this moment and I'm kinda hoping his venture into graphic novels falls short and he has to crawl back to DC and/or Marvel and ask for some work again doing monthlies. Because if this is what he's gonna dedicate his full time towards, well...he really shouldn't have quit his day job...literally.

Guys, about the Apple Jacks thing, it was me that gave the convoluted revenge plan answer. And Kaiser, if you're really curious, I could send you a box. I'd probably have to check international shipping regulations first, since food and drinks are touchy at best.

As for Star Wars, I've always been a huge fan of the series, but never got into the comics (that's a shocker). I've been more into the novels, and even then I wasn't that much into it. The only books I have are Rogue Planet, Approaching Storm, and Dark Lord: Rise of Lord Vader. And I do agree that George Lucas should just drop Star Wars completely, cause he's already tarnishing the good name of it.

And a Star Wars vs Star Trek? Not sure if want, seeing as how I'm prejudice against Star Trek

NEWS FLASH

Bendis & Millar are killing ULTIMATE Spider-Man. The fact Millar is in on this makes me think this might be serious business in some huge major way and not a gimmick.

WTF? Like killing the book? Or killing the Ultimate version of Spider-Man?

UPDATE: Oh...THIS is the Death of Spider-Man. For a second I thought you meant Ultimate was also being killed.

Well, they kinda did this at the end of Ultimatum. But whatever. Don't really care about Ultimate Spidey.

Damn. Forgot to mention these!

Star Wars: Infinities!!!

These are probably my favorite Star Wars comics out there. They are basically the Marvel equivalent of their "What If" series except with moments in the original trilogy. There's one for each episode (IV, V, and VI).

Image
Episode IV - What if Luke failed to blow up the Death Star?

Image
Episode V - What if Luke died on Hoth?

Image
Episode VI - What if the rescue of Han fails at Jabba's palace?

The last one has probably the best final panel out of all three of them...
Spoiler
So in the end of Return of the Jedi, both Leia and Luke find themselves on the Death Star with Vader and the Emperor. Luke fights Vader but is defeated. But in the end, Vader cannot will himself to destroy his children and becomes Anakin Skywalker again. The Emperor flees and escapes before the Death Star explodes. Anakin Skywalker was badly damaged during the fight but did not die. A Jedi, once more...he joins the Rebel Alliance and vows to hunt down the Emperor...and this is what he looks like on the final panel.
Image
As funny as he looked (I mean...seriously? All white? And despite that, you kept the scary helmet??), the idea of Anakin actually living in the end was an interesting idea. I mean he was only like 50 years old or so at the time, he still had some years left in him.

Part of me hopes they bring these back for the prequel trilogy. Hopefully, Episode I will be...what if Jar Jar died at the very beginning of the movie? And maybe, what if Anakin wasn't an annoying brat who said "Yippee!"
