First and for most. This is a PC mod. BUT! I put it in this section because you Console gamers NEED to check this out and show some love to it. Call me a whore or whatever for posting this in multi instead of PC. If Link can go on a limb (sometimes) I'm gonna do it to damn it! (well he can, because he's an admin). You non-PC gamers should have a good enough PC to at least run Half-Life 1, which is another reason I brought this here.
Anyway, ON TO THE MAIN ATTRACTION!
CRY OF FEAR
Cry of Fear is a Half-Life 1 mod, it's been in development for more than 3 years now, ever since the creators critical hit "Afraid of Monsters". Hands down, AoM is the scariest game in the entire world. Cry of Fear is more or less a new story, possibly. Not much has been released about the game and all you know is that you play as "Simon". A poor deprived teenager who's just trying to get home. Through hell. The creators have promised a huge campaign as well as a promise to use all custom content (that means making and doing everything from scratch, no gold source engine bs going on here).
If you are a true survival horror fan and you're up for the challenge, this and AoM should satisfy your hunger.
Jesus, just look at how well detailed the game is!
Keep in mind, this was made only in the first year, and the graphics look no where near the Half-Life 1 Engine.

Neat.
Just to note, just because someone could run HL1 doesn't necessarily mean they'd be able to run this mod. A lot of mods add a lot of (sloppy) render work to the engine and none of it is necessarily efficient. Doesn't mean it won't run on a machine that runs HL2 with no issues, but if you're running HL1 in software mode or something ... this isn't going to run.
Afraid of Monsters is frustrating. Normal difficulty is kicking my ass. Battery life is dying too quickly, and it's just constantly black. It's a scary game, but it feels very unforgiving, and the hospital is confusing as fuck.
I feel what is a good game/mod is being ruined by some poor gameplay designs. Granted, the easier it is the less scary it is, but... fuck, this is ridiculous. I wish I could change the difficulty mid-game without having to restart.

I don't think the difficulty should effect the scares too much, as for your problem. You have to have a good layout of the hospital in your mind. This isn't like Silent Hill, where they give you a map and you find your way around. Just draw out which area you are in and what key objects are in that area.
Think of the hospital level as a "test drive" as I've said to someone before. This is the part of the game that really test if you have the guts to play the game. Once you get past it, the game really starts to pick up.

I dunno, right now it's just frustrating. I think I'm going to restart it on Easy so I have less of an issue worrying about batteries and health as the health seems to be few and far between. I'm making my way out of the hospital for the most part, but the hidden buttons and shit aren't very intuitive (keep in mind I've never played Half Life 1, so if these buttons are the exact same buttons from that game, it's lost on me.)

A huge tip at the start of the game, look for the bright colored lights. They will always lead to or will be key objectives in the game. Also, cardboard boxes and cigarette trash bins have items in them, so smash them.
Here is a video if you need the help Link. I don't blame you for having trouble with this part of the game. Like I said it's a real test drive, but once you get through it, you'll find that it was well worth of going through that hospital.

AoM is seriously one of the best things i ever downloaded. while its slow at first, you at least get to see whats going on till the game throws in the atmosphere after the trip your guy goes on. top notch! also the scare factor is high up there too which makes playin the game even more fun. since cry is not out yet still this will tide most poeple over who haven't played it yet.
