SOTW #8 - Giant Robots - Winner?

One little off topic question, when exporting to .png, what should one use and/or combine? ( Interlaced, Smooth & Dither solid color )
Kudos to whomever came up with this awesome theme btw!

I WAS going to do Big O, but didn't, one because it was already done, and two because I couldn't find the renders I wanted with any ease.

So, instead I came up with this, just to show some love to some of the coolest giant robots ever:

there have been some competition this week IMO a number of sigs caught my attention
Link's, Wallet's, Stinger's and Psychomantis83's

here is my rundown on the others first. for humor purposes i like both snake91's and Link Floyd's but i have my own criteria about how mecha is. I like the EVA 01 sig but it was too bland for this week, and another tip Mashere some border text can do unbelievable magic to a sig ^_^

. The liger sig was good but i didn't see the whole point in the armor thingy, you can hardly tell the Liger's battle armor from one another it was a tad too busy.

I like the macross sig alot and it totally kicks ass the render was amazing! I like the grunge feel stinger incorporated into his sig an unknown mecha but awesome nonetheless. and fthe big O sig was genius lol, i like big O and the badassery (is that even a word!?) was captured.

but my vote goes to Wallet! i like how simple it made Optimus Prime (you cant say mecha without transformers) into a total god lol. i like how the colors blend and it was straight to the point.

Are you referring to the mecha in the background? If so, that's the Super Dimensional Fortress Macross back there.

Also, for those curious, YES that's the best image quality you can get from the Original Macross, it's drawn pretty old schoolish and grungy.

he said it was from a blizzard artist so no actual reference on my part

Ah, gotcha, I thought you were calling the SDF-1 some mecha called 'Stinger' and I was like, lol wut? I think it was the lack of coma or period or something, haha. Also, I keep getting the feeling Stinger's is a Firebat from Starcraft, which makes it not a giant robot, but... you can't really tell.

it was good the blending was great but it didn't feel giant robot to me. that kinda turned me off.

My vote goes to Nomad.

This sig is really awesome :shock:

I love the use of the brushes, the background and the colors. The symbol at the left is also very cool!
Plus, gundam is great.

If you go on the site I mentionned (http://www.sonsofthestorm.com/gallery.p ... wincruiser), it's in the "Personnal" section. It's just a draw that he made, not any Blizzard game reference.

My vote goes to Nomad. The left part of the signature is pure awesomeness. I really like the circle + logo effect. I also really appreciate the two lines (top left, bottom right). It gives the signature a great techno effect, like a robot signature should. However, the font isn't really appropriate, but overall, this is a kickass signature!

@Link: I know it's not a big thing, but could you please add a "s" at the end of my name please? :razz:

Stingers gets my vote because it has a real grimy industrial feel to it. The mech also looks cool 8-)

I love the use of something not cartoony, and it fits perfectly with the giant robots. Its something we all use to picture robots as when were young. ^^

Nah, I just had to state that my intent was to make the piece related somehow, but maybe it didn't come across as good as I wanted it to.

While I also loved Link Floyd's sig Snake91 you get my vote. My vote maybe a little biased because I freakin' love the Beastie Boys but to me it's the most original design, the a lot of them feel generic. It's originality is what attracted me to it and it looks as if I'm almost watching the video. Good work as always Snake91.

P.S. What does the kanji say?

on the right it says "Intergalactic" and on the left it says "ROBOT!"

and my vote goes to Link Floyd... I just absolutely love the cartoony look of it, and it catches my eye out of all of the other sigs

I really like a lot of the sigs, even the Big O is a good submission with what lack of images are available out there. I'm not a huge fan of the 'blocky' robots in Snake & Floyd's sigs, simply because that's not exactly what I pictured when I said "Giant Robots". I was definitely thinking of mecha more so than classic old school lookin' robots. They're both well designed.

But... nomad simply takes the fucking cake with this one. It entirely blows my sig out of the water, which isn't even that 'epic' feeling to begin with honestly, (I sorta wish I could've made my Big O sig, but it wouldn't have happened without some EXTREME time investment on image hunting and/or vector tracing and/or screen-capping DVDs.) But, the whole logo and brush effects, and everything. Honestly, I REALLY fucking hate voting for nomad's sig too, because as an avid Macross fanboy it's my duty to absolutely despise Gundam, but it's just that damn good that it transgresses my anti-Gundam mindset. Kudos to nomad!
