What do I buy? Splurge and buy the Valve complete pack for $100? Save it and buy nothing? Buy only 2 or 3 games? Buy the CS:S and Garry's Mod combo? What woulds't thee suggest, my fellow forum-mates? I'd rather not spend $100 right away, only $500 in my account right now and I have no job.

You can still get a better deal than the complete pack, if you can muster going game hunting. An original release of HL1 (possible to find without a used key, I found one for $2.50) the orange box, and Day of Defeat: Source, and that pretty much gives you access to all the games in that pack. (HL1 Source withstanding) It would also potentially only cost ~$40 USD.

I'd, personally, go for stuff you can only find there. Like Shattered Horizon, The Midadventures of P.B. Winterbottom, Dark Void Zero, and AudioSurf for example.

If you like L4D2 there will most likely be a sale next week as the new dlc will be coming this or next week. Most likely will be $15. I'd say just save up your money since there are sales every mid week and week end.

Oh wait, my bother has a bullshit amount of valve games. Like the physical copies.

Haven't played L4D2. I'll see if any of my friends have it and try it on their system of choice. The new special undead seem unbalancing.

Boat load of good games, most of which you could pirate for free, but at a sale price the convenience is well worth it.

I had trouble with Steam too. It seems to be a pretty common issue with the app, so I figured you might have the same problem. My error message was "fatal error: failed to load platform modules".
Deleting the steam.dll file solved it for me.

There's another more common fix for this as well (that didn't work for me though) Which has the following solution:

Ensure that Steam is not running (close any error dialog windows).
Go to the Start button and select Run....
Enter regedit and press OK.
Navigate to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Steam registry folder.
Locate and double-click the Language registry key.
Enter english in the Value data field and click OK.
Start Steam.

My steam can't connect to the internet to update. I've tried all the typical fixes with no results. Now they wan't an .nfo to diagnose the problem but msinfo doesn't work... see my computer issues thread for details... Anyway, they told me to eamil it to them because the only file I could generate was too big for the support ticket thingy, but now the file is too big to email.
