Wow.... 360s are biting the dust everywhere I turn.

My friend had the same thing and he called Microsoft. I don't know what they said, but I know he had to send it in eventually after it red ringed on him too. I found this by google-ing:

Quote:
How I worked around the "Open Tray" problem, where the game discs were not being recognized:

1. Open tray
2. Unplug power cable while tray is open
3. Plug in power cable
4. Power on console - tray closes
5. Open tray
6. Insert disc
7. Try your game

Good luck! Source: Someone else mentioned this in a forum somewhere, however I don't recall who it was or which forum. I'm just trying to get the word out so people don't send in their XBOX for repair, or open the case and void the warranty if this workaround resolves the problem.

I tried this and nothing happened....I think it might be time for a new 360 - sending it into MS is gonna almost cost as much as a new one seeing as my warranty is over. I do appreciate the help though.

My fiancee JUST had this problem. I think I fixed it by removing a smudge of some sort off the disc.

the problem isnt the disc. I tried a bunch of disks, 360 games, regular dvds, nothing works.

Time to take that sumabitch out back and shoot it.

Either that or send it to Microsoft and pay 50 bucks.

or you could just exclusively play downloaded games.

If you had it for less than 3 years...I'd say make it red ring and have MS send you a "new"/refurbished system for free.

Ah good old Microsoft. I saw some kid trade in his Halo Edition Xbox for another one and the guy at GameStop literally dropped the thing to the ground. He glanced up at me and saw what I was buying and said "Aren't you glad you have a PS3?"

how exactly do you make your 360 red ring ? seems like this might be handy info to know, esp since my 1 year normal warranty expires tomorrow ;-)

Wrap that shit in a towel and let it BURN! I didn't have to do that, mine red ringed on it's own.

no wait.... was that for the other thing.....

edit: disregard that. The towel trick was for fixing the red ring.

It could also work to make it red ring since all you're doing is overheating it to failure.
