Yes, it's all working again, for everyone. It was a leap year issue. Part of your PS3 thought that it was February 29th yesterday, and that's why a lot of encryption failed to work.

Patrick Seybold, senior director, corporate communications wrote:
We are aware that the internal clock functionality in the PS3 units other than the slim model, recognized the year 2010 as a leap year. Having the internal clock date change from February 29 to March 1 (both GMT), we have verified that the symptoms are now resolved and that users are able to use their PS3 normally.

If the time displayed on the XMB is still incorrect, users are able to adjust time settings manually or via the internet. If we have new information, we will update you through the PlayStation.Blog or PlayStation.com.

Remember PS3 fanboys, this is what you get for making fun of the Xbox so badly. You talk about the Red Ring of Death? We now have 8001050F.

Lol It was only one day. The RROD was a problem for the first 3 years of the 360's life. And is still a problem for some people.

Destin said that too on Hard News. 'T was bollocks then, 't is bollocks now :P

One bug in all these years doesn't even hold a candle to the RROD

At least with the red ring it can be fixed for free and you won't lose your achievements. I know a guy who had this happened and he lost all his Trophies and the DLC he paid for that were game add-ons.

Pretty sure you can redownload the DLC.

As for trophies, I've rather lose them all (OH NO MY GAMERSCORE!!!) then have to deal with Microsoft and wait a few weeks just to get it fixed.

Besides, PS3 has always had it's own version of the RROD. It's called the yellow light. It's just no where near as common which is why you don't hear it being brought up often.

Yah, I've heard of it before I bought my Trey but never knew what or where it was. So I turned on my Trey and saw a yellow light blinking. NOT the YLOD but it still scared the living crap out of me.

People didn't lose any of these things because of the error, only because they thought (mistakenly so) that deleting them would "fix" the error. The date problem caused an issue with authentication, therefore it couldn't communicate with servers properly. This doesn't mean the record of what you've earned or the software you've bought is gone (that's stored remotely ... I don't even think trophies are persistent in a local space.)

In any case you can re-download anything you've already purchased.

This is in no way the same as catastrophic hardware failure. It's a small bug causing a much larger manifestation that existed for 24 hours and left no permanent damage.

You and me both. Good thing I didn't start up Uncharted 2 or....I would've shrugged and went on my PC.
