I would have to say Super Mario 3 as well. I never cared for Super Mario World and always had more fun playing SMB3

World, never got why 3 is considered the best Mario game. Just because it has a butt load of power ups?
You don't need that in World cause you have YOSHI!!! (in different colors)

Mario 3 wins also because of the neat power ups. You had the original Mushroom, Star and Flower. But in SMB3, you had The Hammer Suit, the Racoon Suit, the Tanooki Suit, and the Frog Suit. While I am a big fan of the cute little green dinosaur Yoshi, I still think SMB3 is the superior game.

SMW for me

Super Mario World, because of the Special Zone and Haunted House/that Sunken ship levels.

I found Tubular to frustratingly fun.

Considering I was an SNES kid and never owned an NES, I did play SMW a lot more than I did SMB3. However I am going to give the point myself to Super Mario Bros. 3. While SMW showed developers how to make games well for the SNES, it was SMB3 that pushed the limits of the NES in terms of depth and graphics. While I might not have played the game as much, I will postulate that it had a much stronger impact on the gaming society than SMW did.

I love them both but I'm going to give the nod to World.
It's definitly the one I spent the most time on as a kid if for no other reason than that I loved trying to find all the different secrets, like multiple ways of finishing levels, opening up hidden areas, all that cool stuff.

I didn't own Super Mario World until around 1999, so SMB3 has always been #1 for me. World is no doubt an amazing game, it's just that damn nostalgia factor biting me in the ass again.

Oddly enough, even though I think SMB3 is the better or at least more ground-breaking game, I'd be more likely to go back and play through SMW.

Same here, Man! For me, it's the nostalgic factor that makes SMB3 superior.

It was an epicness that was just never duplicated again.
(though the airships did appear in Galaxy)

Also, the music in SMB3, I feel, was more memorable and superior.

There are a ton of reasons of why i'd hold it over the other, but for the sake of not repeating too much already mentioned.. I'll leave it at this.

This is a tough descission, because I like both games.

If we are talking the NES-version of SM3, then my favourite is SMW, mainly due to the save-feature. Great as SM3 on the NES is, I dislike that you have to start over every time you start your NES

If we are talking the Mario AllStars version of SM3, then I would say that it is the superior game.

Gameplaywise I like SM3 better thaan SMW, but only with an inch - I love both games.

Both amazing games, but SMB3 was more ground breaking. The addition of the world map, saved power ups, and mini games really took platforming to the next level. SMW was a stunning way to start the 16 bit era, but it refined (and in some ways retreated from) SMB3, more than innovating. Also, I think SMB3 has a better variety of different level types, including the sky levels, pipe world, and giant world. And who doesn't love the boot and the tanooki suit?

I find SMW to be terribly overrated, to be brutally honest

A problem that people have with this question is usually "graphics over gameplay"

Most people pick World because it's graphics. The graphics don't matter. You know how?

I personally hate the Mario Allstars version of SMB3. It's just... not... fun...


I only like Mario Advance 4 because I take Mario 3 anywhere.

I'm going to say world, simply because I feel like playing it now.

The best is All-Stars because it has everything

I feel the gameplay is more refined, feels better, and while there might not be as many levels, it has one thing that makes me choose it over SMB3... Yoshi, hell yes
