I had a bunch of NES and some SNES games but I sold them a while back. I felt it was worth it. as much as I love retro gaming, I felt I was missing out on current video games. I will re-start my collection some time in the future when I actually get a job. In the mean time, here are my games.

Spoiler

I also have some PC games which I'm lazy and don't feel like getting them out so.

PC games

- starcraft battle chest
- diablo 2 battle chest
- F.E.A.R
- the sims 2
- far cry
- serious sam 2
- elder scrolls 3 morrowind
- sim city 3000

I also have F-zero in it's box and chrono trigger, although the cartridge has seen better days.

Give me a sec here, mine is pretty sizable. Also, due note that there are many games missing because I used to think trading in games was a great way to save money. God, I was a stupid child.

Suikoden V
Suikoden Tactics
Tales of Legendia
Tales of the Abyss
Tekken 5

You now have my attention.

It's true that there aren't a lot of really great gameDBs out there ... most are jumbled and inaccurate, or are user managed so there's like 8 different versions of a game or something.

The database schema has to be designed from the ground up for video games ... and ... they usually don't do that. I imagine ... if you had a Wiki with the entries of Wikipedia and just allowed someone to make a list of it ... that'd be pretty sweet. One thing I've noticed a lot of list databases do is ... they just sort and search based on the display title ... but in reality, they should have another field in the database that is the sorting title and the display title is something else entirely. Removes issues with games with numbers coming before the games that come before them, for example Or a game not being sorted properly because it has a colon in the title. These are just silly issues and more programmers should be ashamed that they don't remove things like this.

As for the actual interface of what it looks like, that's pretty easy ... I made this stupid modular thing awhile ago. It uses abstracted art (as in not any regions specific game box) to represent the game, then the title and platform is dynamic, so you can mix and match fairly easily.

http://web.cecs.pdx.edu/~anaser/gamepro ... lete1.html It's just a test, but, you can see you can assign any platform to any title ... change the actual title (for regions) and use a base game tile to represent the actual game. I also made a bunch of controller images per platform and a color tile to lay behind it to represent the state of the game, playing, completed, whatever.

It was just to see how well the CSS would work ... works pretty well, and the images can be moved wherever, so in all actuality you can take any base cover art and then apply this sort of technique.

The only downside is ... you have to make all the images. And in THAT case, the shnazy look would be more of a hindrance and you'd just want to snag box art from all the regions instead.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, TGH should just hire you with cash moneys to do something like this.

Anywho, IGN's shit was REALLY tight, it had lists for comics, movies, games, music, etc. It was like a giant multimedia archive, and they usually differentiated between Greatest Hits, GOTY, Collector's Edition, Imports, Virtual Console, etc. so it was easy to list your games if they were in multiple formats, even if they were just ports.

Now, the thing's totally a fucking mess, it's just one giant list that you can't organize, you can't easily add stuff to your collection instead you have to "become a fan" of a game or some facebook shit, and then all news related to that game goes into some dumb wall feed for you. Before you used to be able to rate games, see IGN's score, see other site's score for the game, organize shit into different lists PER console or genre by just using filters, it was really awesome. The ONLY downside to it all was there wasn't a way to export your data. You couldn't just pull it to an excel sheet or a php file or something so you could have it just in case the site went all retarded, like it is now.

cheapassgamer.com has a collection list that isn't UBER versatile, but it's still nice and minimal.

Here we go:

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/games.php?u=278428

Unfortunately I haven't added anything pre-PSX yet, just because most of those games are at my home and not on me personally, so I don't remember everything I specifically have.

I'm also in the process of RATING every game I own. So that might be interesting to some of you.

Had one for awhile. There's a lot of problems with their collection system, though.

Seems to get the job done for the most part. My only complaint is it's not an entirely full catalog, and there are some weird duplicate entries here and there.

That's because it's user created and managed. There's also no elements to store region or edition which is very silly.

The interface for choosing titles, also, is crude. If you're adding plenty of games you should be able to just click on them in a large laid out list and have them added to your collection or wishlist. Not have to click on each individual one.

And god forbid someone ads some shitty box art.

Like I said, there's a lot of problems.
