This thread is like grind your gears, except for initial impressions (or new impressions) you have of some video game. New, Old, doesn't matter. Got random thoughts you want to blurt out about some game, do it here. (It wouldn't be entirely bad to link an article or video to what you're talking about, though.)

Start:

The new information for Resident Evil Mercenaries makes the game suddenly look like shit. It's nothing but RE4-5 style combat in a gauntlet. Yay. (NO THANKS)

I started Mana Khemia a few weeks ago.

Played 10 minutes and just put it down. Honestly, it seems even more generic than I was expecting, not a good thing. Might try it later for real.

I just made that topic about new games we're all interested in getting and it reminded me of some "comedic" game like Shadows of the Damned where the main character couldn't die? Like, he got his head blown off or something and he picked it off the ground made some quirky one-liner quote and put it back on. Anybody know what that was called? It debuted at E3 in 2010.

Also, RE4 & CV: X are being "revamped" for current gen consoles, or at least the 360. Going to be all HD and shit. My initial impression is "Cool for CV, not worth it for RE4." The reason I say this is because I feel that the Wii version will always have the best controls/feel to it despite what they might attempt to do graphically with the HD version.

I never had any interest in this game , it looks exactly like what I expected it to be, a supped up stand alone version of the mercenaries mini game from RE4 and RE5, the only difference is they are trying to pepper in a bit of story with it but meh.

the fact this fucker in the video says "we are really proud of all the stories we've told leaves me with even less hope that the next installment of the series will hopefully not be as fucking goofy as 5. also fuck this guy, everything about re4 and re5 is the core essence of what resident evil is all about? I hope this guy chokes to death very slowly on a fiery rancid turd.

resident evil revelations on 3ds looks slightly more interesting to me then mercs , same graphics and same 3rd person switch to first person to shoot game play but its an actual entire game / story not just a glorified mini game, but after RE5 I am not sure how excited I am for it, I used to eat breathe and sleep Resident Evil but now, it really feels like the series has to do something truly great to win me back over.

talking about first impressions with all this RE talk makes me think of what link said above

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/115/1157169p1.html

RE 4 and RE : Code Veronica is getting updated and a fresh coat of HD paint and being released on xbox and ps3? this has the potential to be very cool!

EDIT - to reply to what link said above too, RE4 on the WII is probably my favorite WII game, that shit plays perfectly, that being said, this could bode VERY well for the RE4 remake on the PS3, slick new HD ps3 graphics + RE4 WII's gameplay via the move could make for the best RE game since the end of the ps1 era.

Think it was "Never Dead" or something like that. I remember it is being done by Konami.

Let's keep this new RE games thread rolling, haha.

Quote:
An exclusive article apparently lifted from the next issue of the US edition of Official Xbox Magazine forms the basis for a report on StickSkills, supposedly unveiling the next game in the Resident Evil series. It's called Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City and throws the story back to 1998 amid the advent of the zombie outbreak in the titular city, as previously seen in Resident Evil 2 & 3.

Operation Raccoon City is a team-based shooter according to the report, that has you playing as part of a team of Umbrella Security Service Operatives working to contain and cover up the epidemic, while wiping out any survivors. Your four-person team wil comprise of characters Vector, Beltway, Bertha and Spectre, and they're inspired by Resi 2's hidden character, Hunk.

You'll even be able to affect and even change the course of Resident Evil history in a darker storyline that will give you the chance to actually kill key characters in the series, including Resi 2 and 4 hero, Leon S. Kennedy. There's three factions in the narrative too, including the USS team, Spec Ops and the 'bio-organic weapons' created by Umbrella, including the Tyrant.

Slant Six, the developer behind SOCOM: Confrontation on PS3, is working on the game according to the report, which is lifted from the pages of the US OXM May 2011 issue. We'll see if this is all for real when the mag hits the newsstands. Still, we hope it's real, as it sounds like an interesting direction for the Resident Evil franchise. Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is apparently slated for a winter 2011 release.

Sounds a million times more enjoyable than the other shit they're working on. It's "Left 4 Dead" with a bunch of people dressed like Hunk and gunning down important Old Resident Evil lore characters (haha, if murdering the past isn't some ironic symbolism on Capcom's part I don't know what is), awesome.

yea, I read about that yesterday on IGN, definitely sounds interesting, sort of like a mash up of RE outbreak and L4D, I just hope since it is taking place in racoon city during the original outbreak they dont put manjini and las plagas in there, keep that shit cannon with zombies and tryants etc, if they want faster moving enemies use lickers and hunters and the like.

with all these spin offs and side games coming out, makes me wonder when we will hear something about the next true installment in the series, I am really interested ( or scared ) to see where they take things now.

I wonder how well received the plot of RE5 was in Japan. I know in America it gets shit on by a lot of folks who are all up on the RE storylines, but I wonder about elsewhere in the world?

It makes me wonder if they're re-evaluating things before they make RE6 and are instead making all these odd spin-offs and semi-sequels.

First thoughts on Ar Tonelico Qoga:

Enjoyable romp, but clearly inferior to Ar Tonelico II, and possibly also Ar Tonelico.

Street Fighter 3DS is pretty tight. Looks and plays great. Really it just depends how burnt out you are on Street Fighter, since it is more of a port than anything really new.

Ridge Racer 3DS didn't impress me much. Everything feels very vanilia. Of course I haven't really been into a Ridge Racer game since R4, and that one actually had a lot of personality because of its night races, soundtrack, and excellent career mode with tons of cars to unlock. This seems to be a throwback to the older entries. I hear it gets better once you unlock the faster cars so I'll have to play more.

I think racers will be awesome on the 3DS. If only we could get an F Zero or Burnout or something to capture that sense of speed.

My thoughts on each upcoming RE games:

Revelations- Why is Jill aiming a gun at Chris? Aside from that, it looks alright, but after RE 5's promises failing, I'm not too trusting. Jill's not blonde, so it's sort of in the right direction I guess.

Mercenaries- Will be neat at first, but can get old after a while. I love The Mercenaries in RE 4, but I can't see myself paying full price for a glorified minigame.

RE 4- Already have it on the Wii. No reason to own it again.

Code Veronica X port- I am extremely excited for this game. Never had the chance of playing the original.

Overall, I'm the most excited for a port of a 10 year old game than anything new. After RE 5, Capcom really has to really impress me with one of their new games for me to be back on board with the series.

Ehsan, no thoughts on the team-based shooter that takes place during RE2/RE3/Outbreak?
Also, RE4 comes with CV:X. If I read the descriptions right.

On that note, my thoughts on Deus Ex: Human Revolution:

Want now

That is all.

I dunno what to think of it to be honest. I completely gave up an atmospheric RE game, so I'll just see what happens with this one. I really don't care to be honest, but I'd be a lier if I said the ability to play as a Tyrant model wouldn't be awesome.

And Capcom recently announced that CV: X and RE 4 would be released separately on PSN, so I'll only pick up CV: X.

I hated Mass Effect the first time I played it, mostly because of the controls (I always would heal by accident and ended up wasting my medi-gels all the time lol) and it just wasn't all that exciting to me. I wanted very badly to like this game so I pushed through and eventually I got sucked into the story and action and now it's one of my favorite games ever.

Aliens vs Predator on the xbox 360 didn't give me a very good first impression. The marine campaign was fun but I was completely turned away by the controls of the alien campaign. Eventually I got use to them and it became tons of fun, sneaking through vents, smashing lights and picking off marines one by one.

My first impression of GTA4 wasn't very good. The characters were annoying and I hated it whenever they talked, the missions were nothing exciting or special and I just wasn't compelled to explore any of Liberty city. My opinion hasn't changed since I first played it. I just can't seem to get into GTA4.

Yes, but there's been so many RE announcements that it's hard not to have first impressions about anything else. Capcom has been chewing everyone's ear off lately with announcements.

Been playing a bit of Shadow Wars. Graphics aren't anything to write home about but the 3D gives the battlefield a bit more depth. I do like the presentation with all crazy heads up holograms, I feel like Iron Man commanding my team of GI Joes. I'd actually compare it to very much to GI Joe with the future semi-sci-fi tech they got going on. I think it will be a bit of a sleeper hit if you enjoy tactics games, I think this will provide more replay value than many of the launch titles.

The AR cards are awesome. I hope they plan to do more or have other titles that use that same kind of tech. Imagine a Wario Ware or some really creative developers having a field day with it.

Recently picked up The Saboteur. I gotta say its extremely decent. Nothing that blows your socks off, but it is pretty fun blowing up nazis. I also like the feature of the city changing from black and white to color when its liberated.

The only thing that I don't like is there is no map key! You have to hit escape then click map and then click full map.

I am only a couple hours in so I hope it gets better.
