Hey everyone,

8-Bit News is returning...with a twist! I'm going to be working with Mickey writing the Gameheroes weekly news segment. There will be two different versions: a news video starring our own 8-Bit Mickey and a written version. Both will feature different news stories (unless something huge in the gaming world comes up and needs to be addressed in both). Both will be a weekly news segments as I do work a 9-5 full time job and Mickey has other website commitments that updating the news daily would prove to be very difficult.

The first issue of the weekly written news is now up on the site: http://thegameheroes.com/articles/8-bit ... ugust-8th/. Please let us know what you think. Any constructive criticism is greatly appreciated as I know I want to try and make these news segements the best they can be.

I'll just put my youtube comment here:

some asshole wrote:
Obviously reading Mickey is obvious.... also, add some more pizazz! Perhaps jazz hands? Or maybe a funny hat? Or maybe vocal inflection?

I was kind of hoping it would be done in the old style with you guys riffing on video game news stories informally. I mean, the scripted news caster thing has been so done... so unless you're so legendarily awesome at it that you transcend the genre, I'd try sticking with the unique route and using your natural charisma and wit to deliver the news.

I agree with everything Danimal said. To add on top of it though, A news segment like this where one guy reads news in front of a camera, doesn't need credits. Shrinking the trailer so I can read who was on camera, and who did the research is time wasted. A well written news script would have the sources written in to the dialog. I mean, maybe at least don't shrink your trailer to show the credits, fly it all by real quick at the end. ??

You've pointed out that you "butchered the script" and then admitted that it was "read poorly" in the credits. If it's at a point where even you are insulting your own work, what do you think other people are going to think? Why release something your not confident in, or proud of? Over-all this looked more like a rehersal than something that should have been recorded and released.

Well, that's the negative stuff, but now for some of the good. You obvliously know the flaws with the production, so in knowing you're going to address those, I'm excited to see future news segments. The articles were well researched and it felt like a good amount of news for the week. Not too short, and not way too much info. The Editing was a step up from usual as well, I was really excited to see that. It was like you tried different things to keep the clips interesting.

All in all, this is definitely something i'd want to keep watching every week. I hope you guys keep a good schedule about it and keep it going! Well done!

lol yeah this weeks was a little rushed, i filmed sunday night then spent the rest of th time editing :-D

From now on i'll be filming friday nights and it'll be up every monday so unless im at a con it should be all good.

Thanks for the input I'll make next weeks all that much better.

Danimal, I'll be adding my personality more in future episodes but I'm pretty keen on the format of scripted news. :-)

O and glad you liked the editing, I was having fun with that. lol

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Seriously, let us have it because we want to make this segement mega-awesome and hearing what people have to say will help us do just that.

I'm going to try and make the jokes fit more of Mickey's personality this week. Problem I'm having is I'm a newswriter. That stuff has been hammered into my brain after 3 years of school and being put out into the field so I'm having some problems making these stories come off as funny, they come off more as corny than anything. If you watch or read the news there really isn't that much humour and if there's some added it's usually pretty corny stuff. I'm going to work with Mickey and make things more fit his style.

You didn't say anything about jazz hands... so I'll just assume you'll be doing them the whole video next time.

I'll echo what I put in the comments. ;)

I love the video news segments. Please KEEP THEM CONSISTENT. I'd really like it if this weren't the only one we see for 2 months. Also, have Orlando read the script and get familiar with it before filming. The prompter should be reference to see where you're at or what comes next, not something you read directly off of. And mentioning the 'Teleprompter;' move it closer to the camera so he's not looking 2 feet to the right of the camera every 2 seconds.

Other than that, I loved it and would tune in to watch this whenever I saw it up. Great Job!!
