Post here to pretty much talk about current arcs in comics, discuss about what you hate and/or don't hate. I figure this way we can sort of have a global big topic where people just talk about comics instead of the weird break-away tangents we have in the other 2 stickies.

I want to complain a wee bit anyways...

Moon Knight started off strong, had an important main arc, and has gone with this whole weird one-shot story telling system, and I don't think it's working out well. It feels like a REALLY weak start after the initial strong start. They had me excited, and then by the 3rd or 4th issue they lost me, and now we're on issue 10 and the main story/plot is non-existent. I may just get my Moon Knight fix in Secret Avengers.

Secret Six was soooooooooo disappointing this week. The past like... 4 issues have been ORGASMIC and then this weird one-shot action thrill ride flashback prior to the awesome arc Savage Land/Mojoverse/Battle Royale ripoff comes out and just grinds everything to a stop. I guess Gail Simone needed more time to write, but maybe she should spend less time on twitter arguing with people and more time writing her comics. :[

Also, Hawkeye & Mockingbird took a turn for the worse, I'm hoping it's just one bad issue, but it was just like... "UGH! CLICHE! DUMB! UNNECESSARY! IT'S ONLY THE 2ND ISSUE!"

I think a lot of comics nowadays, especially with all these new series are dropping all these gigantic bombshells out of fear that they need a big story to grip you by the balls.

Moon Knight -> My arch nemesis is brought back from the dead, I must defeat him! Okay, I did that, now I'm just gonna coast on one-shots and cameos for 6 issues.

Avengers Academy -> OH NOES! We're gonna grow up to be super villains 'cuz we're so messed up, that's why the academy exists!

Hawkeye & Mockingbird -> OH NOES! I blew my girlfriend's secret identity and put her family at risk and now her arch-nemesis shot her Mom in the face! My bad! She's gonna be soooo pissed.

I dunno, sometimes it seems like comics are trying way too hard or the writers are afraid their comic will only last 12 issues so they blow their wad all at once.

I appreciate that Jeff Parker "faked" an orgasm and didn't blow any wads during Thunderbolts. It was a very "OH! OH SHIT! LOOK WHO IT IS! HOLY CRAP!" and then he was just like "Naw, just kiddin'." in the next issue.

I'm with you (Link) on Secret Six, that thing was filler-ific if I've ever seen it.

Not so much with Hawkeye & Mockingbird. I wasn't all "OMG O_o " about what happened but I enjoyed it.

Has anyone read ShadowLand yet? I just did last night and I loved it. I'm not sure if it's because I havn't been reading DareDevil for very long or what but I was shocked by some of the stuff that was going on.
Spoiler
DD refusing help from Luke and Iron Fist unless they would "swear allegiance to the Hand", straight up murdering BullsEye.
Dude has gone off the deep. I'm seriously questioning what's gonna happen with him by the end of this thing.

Just like to ask;

Why the fuck does it take nearly a damn year for paperback tradebacks to get released? I read tradeback, but most of the big events I want to read are too damn expensive as hardcovers! :serious:

DC does this. Marvel usually has a TPB out a month or two after the hardback comes out.

Now if only Marvel had any great events I want. I really need to get Batman RIP and Final Crisis, but I can't find any paperbacks.

I'm not even sure what to think about New Avengers right now. I'm sort of excited and apathetic at the same time. I'll give this 2nd issue a shot this week and we'll see what happens from there I guess.

No. That was Batman on an acid trip.

Seriously, he's in a weird purple outfit, hopped up on heroine, talking to an imaginary bat-mite, and the gargoyles around Gotham are talking to him as his informants.

Caveman Batman is the end of Final Crisis.

Last week I decided to go back and give Secret Six another shot and pick up where I left off with the Deadshot one shot, all the way to the most recent issue and: holy shit did I miss out on some good books! that whole Catman arc was pretty much the plot form Taken, but it worked really, really well. The last issue did feel out of place, but for me it was more the art that just looked weird than the whole Battle Royale story (which the did in Deadpool earlier this year).

Amazing Spider-man pretty much just wrapped up their whole Gauntlet/Grim Hunt Story which actually turned out way better than I expected it to. THIS is how you bring Spidey back to a level where everyone can understand and relate to, and what sucks is the next story is Quesada's explantion/excuse for the Parker/MJ split.

I'm actually 50/50 with Moon Knight. It had a pretty good plot brewing when he came back from Mexico, but everything just went by way to fast. When read as single issues the book is ok, but on a whole the book has gotten pretty weak.

Brightest Day has kinda been trudging along a bit. Its setting up some really cool stories, but 5 books in and it feels like we're still being introduced to new plot elements rather than prgressing with the established ones. In many ways Brightest Day reminds me of 52 in that some weeks we get a really good issue that leaves us wanting more like the Martian the Manhunter story. Others just feel like like random exposition like the Deadman, Hawk and Dove storyline.

Generation Lost on the other hand is fucking awesome! I like how they've pretty much reformed the JLI with the new Blue Beetle and the new Rocket Red. At first when they brought Max Lord back I wasn't sure what they could do with the character, but having the whole world forget him actually works well for the story. Pair this book up with Booster Gold and you've got yourself a great reminder that there were really good storylines in the late 80s/ early 90's that didn't have guys with 1000 pouches, weren't dark, and didn't suck.

I've really been digging Kevin Smith's Green Hornet book. If you've ever read Smith's Daredevil or Green Arrow stories and liked them I'd definitely recommend it. The plot seems pretty similar to that of the up coming movie save for a few changes here and there: After cleaning up the city Green Hornet and Kato retire. Reid goes on as a newspaper EIC and the city has pretty much enjoyed about 10 years of peace when a new villain, the Black Hornet attacks a fund raiser Britt was throwing for the up coming mayoral election. Britt Sr. dies, a female Kato shows up and Britt's spoiled son gets sucked into the whole mess. It's a story we've heard before but Kev keeps it fresh with his dialogue and quirks.

Damn straight you missed out on some sweet shit. Catman is like fucking WOAH. Seriously, he's my new favorite character.

I'm not sure how I feel about OMIT. I mean... it's enjoyable so far, but like... REALLY? I just hope the overall story is good, as opposed to it being a waste of my time and/or something entirely stupid and pointless like it seems to be so far. I mean... "Some guy who wasn't supposed to escape managed to escape and then he fell on me and knocked me out so I missed my wedding." Like... WHA?

I had crazy mixed feelings about this. I mean it's impossible for anyone who has read Spider-Man for a long time to not feel that way. How could the story explaining the stupidest story ever not be stupid? That said, I didn't hate it, but I can't say I liked it.

I haven't even been a longtime reader of Spidey, but it's just one of those things where in movies like... Butterfly Effect or Run Lola Run or something where some silly insignificant thing makes a huge impact is cool, but in OMIT it's like "Are you fucking kidding me?"

I mean, I'd rather have had Peter and Mary Jane get into some huge fight and not even have the wedding ceremony at all and just break up. That would have been preferable to what it seems like they're doing.

Kind of in the same boat but, what's bugging me is as of right now the reason is "some fat guy fell on me". And while I expect Quesada to have more come up after that, it just seems like such a weird way of going about it. I was expecting a huge argument too, or maybe Peter slept with Black Cat, or something. Not just "a fat guy fell on me".
